The Real Wizard wrote: Is there no way to cut your costs? All you need is a basic studio setup and a few mics for your piano. The only real expense is the CDs and packaging, and you can definitely do a few hundred copies for less than 3 grand.
Best of luck to you, all the same !
Looking forward to hearing a sample of your work.
A "very basic studio setup" costs around 650 euros per day, plus the cost of hiring a piano and the tuner (around 1000 Euros for two days, but this recording is gonna take at least three days). For a commercial production we need just the best. I cannot just put some random mics on my own piano. We need good acoustics, a professional sound engineer, a perfect piano. After the recording phase there is the mixing and the post-production. This is quite a long phase where the artist, together with one mixing technician, chooses the "final sound" of the products. Mixing an album costs around 50 Euros per hour. Then there are the expenses for the graphics: production and design of the booklet. Plus the expenses of paying the rights to Queen. And, finally, printing and distributing the album.
I have a recording label which I am working with for my classical projects. Make a search on youtube or iTunes or Amazon and you will see I have many products on the market, so you can imagine I know the productive process quite well, for that is my job. For this product I decided to go independent to have a better control of the whole process and let my audience participate. That is quite a common thing between musicians: the music band Marillion, which used to be quite popular back in the 80s (especially because they sounded like Genesis!) now produce all their album through preselling copies and merchandise with a crowd-funding campaign. Fans are happy because they feel part of it and they are happy to develop great products with their help.
I hope now the situation is clearer ;)

Ti auguro un grande successo.
hi Gabriele , congratulations for the initiative. as you already know there is a similar cd (queen piano tribute) performed by anonymous artists, released in the U.S., but I can't tell you that It is a wonder. with your background certainly your production will be fantastic. finally an Italian who dares!! I wish you a great success.

Grazie mille Gianluca!
Thank you so much Gianluca! I know the CD and unfortunately it is quite a very bad product. It is also a scam: what you hear is not a real piano but some badly done midi files... That's why they didn't write the name of the performers. I really hope I'll produce something nice for everybody to enjoy!
Ciao! G.

Dear friends, this is more or less the tracks that I would like to include. What do you think? What would you like me to add/remove? I will have a soprano friend of mine and a great singer (and for great I really mean GREAT, he is one of the best Freddie Mercury clones around) who will join me for some tracks... so I thought of some songs from Barcelona....
Keep Yourself Alive White Queen Innuendo Ogre Battle Dreamer’s Ball The Prophet’s Song The Miracle Death On Two Legs Bijou Brighton Rock Princes of the Universe Sail Away Sweet Sister Too much love will kill you Save Me Bohemian Rhapsody We Are The Champions How can I go on Ensueño
Thanks!!! - G

Daaaaaammnn...
That is a very good list. Good to know that you've got plenty of obscurities.
I was kind of hoping for Black Queen and My Fairy King, but even without those two this is a great set.
Some Barcelona songs would be cool. Maybe some songs from the other two guys? Resurrection, for example?
From what I've heard and seen so far, this is really good. Glad this is happening.

It sounds really wonderful. I hope you do mange to produce the album. I love the set list, but please consider including March of the Black Queen. It is such a powerful song! I love the way it is performed at the Rainbow show. Anyway, good luck.

Oh, and Nevermore! How did I forget about that?

Wow... by choosing tracks I am an album producer.

Thanks xxxxx

Mooghead, you want to provoke, I'm not here to argue with anybody. There are two kinds of producers: recording producer, executive producers. People that are funding the project are executive producers.
I don't know if you gathered information about me and my activity, this is not a nice way to treat a professional who has been doing his job honestly and at his best all his life. You are quite disrespectful, in a very useless and offending way.
I'm not gonna longer answer you. If you don't like this project just stop reading this post.

I am speechless. At the end of the day you are offering a sleeve note to a recording that no one will buy, or will even be made into a physical product.
I have made no attempt to 'gather' information about you.

He wasn't asking for compliments. And I'm going to send him money because he's talented and creative enough to create a product that sounds really good to me. From the little snippets I heard from that video, I would love a full album of the stuff. If you did something similar, I might consider sending you money as well. In the meantime, your sarcasm isn't clever and doesn't make sense.

Nope. He's giving out a lot of stuff if you give him more than 5 Euros.

False.

Wrong again. CDs will be released, assuming he reaches his goal.

No. What on earth would give you that idea? Actually, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if that were you, given the unhelpful and irrelevant nature of that post.

Basically, Mooghead is being a knob. I thought there was enough of them on here

Really, what's your problem? If you don't support the idea, don't support it. You really don't have to play a bigheaded troll here. Many people consider Musicraiser a great idea, a convenient way to avoid all the major music label bullshit. It's not only about "I want to record some songs > Send me some money", but also "> You'll get the songs as a reward". And after all recording songs properly DOES cost money.
Of course you don't have to agree with the idea of this form of fundraising, but why be so cynical? Arguing about semantics is a poor strategy of argumentation.
Cheers!

dear mooghead,
everything lies in the fact that he (Gabriele), as you, play an instrument, but he dares to propose and enterprising. Why don't you try to do the same instead of criticize who have the courage to get involved ?

*shrug* I don't see the problem with crowdfunding. You're still giving money to someone and getting something in return.
