Dear all,

Does anyone know what the exact piano is that Mike Moran uses on the following two songs...

”Have a Nice Day”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW0ZmqQVp5A&

”When this old tired body wants to sleep”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcIkf9cbGvU

I love the fat/wide sound of the piano and I am sincerely wondering what piano he is actually using for these sessions.

Steinway.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

@Sebastian I would assume it was Freddie's Steinway.

Hi Martin/Sebastian

I understand it is a Steinway, but why is the sound on these 2 songs so much more different compared to for instance the ”Barcelona” song or other songs this Steinway was used on. What I noticed is that in these 2 examples the piano sound is extremely fat/wide with great bass tones which makes me think Mike Moran used a different piano or the recording setup was totally different.

Dont you agree there is a big difference in this particular piano sound (in the 2 songs mentioned) compared to other piano played on this allegedly ”same” Steinway?

I don't think it was Freddie's Steinway ... I seem to remember reading somewhere that Mike hired a Steinway for the recordings and had it moved to The Townhouse or something like that. Now, there's the chance that each song was done at a different studio (e.g., Town House and Mountain), which would explain the difference in mics, ambience, sound, console, tape-recorder and even piano (even if it's the same make and even model).
