Hi - I thought for a bit of fun to celebrate my upcoming 1000th post I'd upload my complete collection of Queen appearances on the much celebrated & ridiculed 70s / 80s Top Of The Pops albums.
This might need a bit of explaining.
These tracks aren't actually by Queen, but the session band known as the 'Top Of The Poppers'. They would get the new hit singles of the day and then hastily record their sound-a-like versions for their own albums. So what you have here are recordings contemporary with the original songs. I think they are fascinating, funny, sometimes excellent. Seven Seas Of Rhye must be the first ever Queen cover version?
They have a fair old crack at each song, recorded in hours rather than weeks like the originals. And don't forget, these songs are so familiar to us now, but these guys would've had a couple of listens straight off the bat. It gives them a weird energy. Especially the fluffed lyrics! I'm surprised there are not more Queen songs among the series of albums - I guess they were tricky to do quickly?
You'd have to have a very cold heart not to get some enjoyment out of these! FUN IT.
Seven Seas Of Rhye
Bohemian Rhapsody
You're My Best Friend
Somebody To Love
Tie Your Mother Down
We Are The Champions
Bicycle Race
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Save Me
Another One Bites The Dust
Under Pressure

I'd say I got most out of the version of Under Pressure - one guy seems to be doing both vocals and he hits some awesomely high notes.
Oh and Bicycle race made me LOL.

Yes - good to make the distinction.
I've also got a Bowie collection if anyone is interested?

Haha, this is a great share. And i mean it!
I remember watching this Top of the Pops lp´s at a second hand store and i remember being intrigued by it. The covers ( and i mean the "real" covers with the ladies) are worth the money alone:-) Women were so sexy back then. Great share!
But i thought that it was linked to the tv series with the same name !! Well, now i know better.
And by the way, total respect for the musicians involved in this project. I think it´s extraordinary that they could perform all these songs.
