Freddie coming back from the dead will beat both events - by at least ten years

There's no point in speculating whether this is a good or bad decision. We don't know what SBC's vision's were for the film, he said he's a huge Freddie fan but anybody who's heard the greatest hits thinks that. He may have had some awful suggestions, he may have had some good ones, we don't know.
To be honest, i'm happy that this is happen. If the film has to happen (which, i'm not sure it does), then i was never keen on SBC playing it anyway. I like SBC very much and i enjoy his TV work and films. However, i worried people were believing he would be good in the role simply because he had a moustache in Borat. People would say 'he looks so much like Freddie Mercury', when i honestly think he doesn't. Also, he's about a foot taller than Freddie, it would have looked weird.
I know you can't get too hung up on appearances, as nobody's going to be the spit of Freddie and be a talented actor etc. But I dunno, it always bugged me.

Personally I am not bothered as to who plays the lead role so long as they do a good job, I suspect there will be a dozen or so solid actors who could take up the part.
Would be interesting to know want the creative differences where? was he trying to make it too comedic? or too sensational? I suspect Queen want a none warts and all story with freddie being played as a hero, which whilst it might be nice wouldn't be the full story... I hope it gets back off the ground soon so they can get back to doing more music work

Hated the fact that SBC was cast in this film as Fred, with that said it does at least look like he was trying to push the film in a more honest direction than B & R & Co. feel is necessary. Of course they are concious of their legacy and that of Mr. Mercury after all the film is about him, it's his biopic, of course it is up to them how that is portrayed. The question remains will it be an honest portrait of Freddie? Will they tell the story of a shy man looking for love in life who was a musical genius? In doing so will they ignore the more hedonistic side of Freddie which is well publicised although sometimes exaggerated? Will all the exciting bits get glossed over revealing an almost Disney like Freddie? No Wacko Jacko with Llamas in the studio and Freddie begging Jim Beach to get him the fuck out of there asap? Freddie did 16 metric tons of Coke will Elton in a period of a few years, is all that going to be brushed under the carpet along with the other great stories?
I get the feeling that many die-hard Queen fans will be left feeling bored by a diluted version of what the Biopic could be. B & R should simply sit down with the writers give them as many stories as possible for creating a script, and then piss off. But oh no they cannot do that, the temptation to be involved as Producers and Directors as well as having final say on the script is too much of an opportunity to pass up for them, control freaks. B & R you guys are musicians, yeah you have had some stage success with WWRY, but back the fuck off. This is Hollywood, a whole new ball game you guys no fuck all about. You are going to piss this film down to nothing and when it is poorly received on release you will put the blame firmly on somebody else's shoulders, as usual.
Walk away before you wreck it guys.

If the film it is to be a decent movie I don't understand how i can stop at the Magic tour as rumoured. Surely the most 'cinematic' element of Freddie's life his his up-bringing and battle with AIDS together with personal relationships.
Seems as if the movie they want to make is 'he sung some songs, was a nice bloke. Did well out of life' . It would be quite a dull movie. Unless it concentrates on his struggles where's the interest? Will the plot focus around how he managed to hit a middle #C during the middle of a long tour?

This news is a relief. It would have been great as a spoof though. Final scene: Brian and Roger discussing the reasons it didn't work with SBC and flashes of SBC trying to catch a taxi while wearing his leotard, eye liner running, etc.

I for one am happy that this imbecile has walked away from the film. Last thing the fans want to see is Hollywood sensationalising certain aspects of Freddie's character just to make a Minority Social Group feel good about themselves. Hollywood has not been very reliable with facts in recent years, all to cater to the lowest denominator.
Most people/fans admired Freddie for his music and abilities as an amazing vocalist.
I hope the film portrays the relationships between the band members inside/outside the studio. The concerts I have heard on YT during 85 (except Live Aid) were disappointing, especially Freddie who let his high standards slip due to excesses plus Roger and that awful synth drum sound.
Did the other Band members take Freddie to task for his lack of live performance why he wasn't keen to tour in the future?

This comment from another forum says it all "What a terrible waste of potential. This project should be shelved now"
Says everything that needs to be said, SBC leaving is irrelevant any number of actors could easily do the roll better. The reasons he left are the point here. Hope it does run out of steam and never sees the light of day, probably will do too. Can't see this ever getting made.
Freddie Mercury November 1991 "You can do what you want with my music," he said, "but don't make me boring."
Well Fred your mates have just stuck two fingers up at you.

Well said
On a side note. I'd like to think my bitching paid off.
With sbc there I figured he would just be out there to ride the gay chic thing and have some controversial kisses and sex scene stuff. Just sensationalism.
Which I guess you couldn't really separate from the man's life... but in a telling up to 85' I just don't see why.
Also. .. don't like his "dramatic roles"

Unfortunately it's also the most predictable element of his life.
Everyone in the audience knows how the story ends, so there's no point in spending millions of dollars shooting it.
You could make a movie based on two days of Freddie's life:
One in his hedonistic phase before he was worried about AIDS, and another when he's realised he's been infected with the disease.

I don't think it is just about Freddie only.
I remember Brian saying in his website that he was very particular about how they did his hair for the Lego figure of himself. He would be just as particular about he would be portrayed in the film. I think the production people foresee that there would no end to the band members supervising how the film should be done and so it is better to give up now.

Well there is a thing I noticed on this whole subject of SBC dropping out. (Not here but on other forums/sites)
People don't seem to realise that this film isn't only about Freddie being bisexual or his relationships, (that by the way are private and maybe Brian and Roger are trying to protect them) it's his whole life. I know Freddie said "don't make me boring", but I'm pretty sure this didn't involve showing his whole personal life.
Also to the people that are talking shit about Brian and Roger, they can simply fuck off. In the end, they have been a big part of Freddie's life and they know him better than we do.
