Brian May
London, UK
Brixton Academy
June 15, 1993

By request..

This is an audience tape of the (nearly) complete Brixton show. Thanks to Mr. Scully (www.queenconcerts.com) for supplying the recording.

Brian bows out of Last Horizon because his guitar is out of tune, so Spike Edney does a lovely keyboard spot until he returns. "I didn't come all this way to Brixton to be out of tune, right? I'm gonna give you Spike Edney for a minute. Spike, do a little soliloquy, OK?"

Guess official material is ok now.
One thing, track 12 of disc 2 should be named "The dream is over", Brian's version has slightly different lyrics than Lenon's original song.

Well, it's an average quality audience tape of an officially released show. I hardly think this will defer anyone from buying it.

Nobody seemed to have a problem with the Montreal 81 audience tape or the Rainbow 74 uncut soundboard tracks. Is there even moderation here anymore?

As for the lyrics, it's still the same song. Is there any official indication that Brian renamed the song?

Another significant issue to take into account between this and the official release: The official release has a shit ton of overdubs, even moreso than Wembley '86! Don't believe me? Watch his guitar playing VERY closely for instance throughout the whole video, particularly on the fret hand. I spotted quite a few moments where the playing is not matching the visual action! Also, there are moments where his Guild back-up was clearly overdubbed with his original RS because (to those with trained ears who can actually spot the tonal differences) the Guild has a lot of moments where the tone sounds identical with the original RS, which should not be possible due to the differences between the Guild '84 models' DiMarzio pickups and the Burns Tri-Sonic pickups on the RS. The feedback is a dead giveaway, since the Guild '84 model does not fare well for strong feedback sustain.

I saw the Back to the Light tour in Düsseldorf / Germany

30 /11/ 93... the guys had a very good night.

Edit : It just comes back to my memory - three female background singers - good looking - but somehow it doesn`t fit.
Munich - Cocaine and low taxes ! You can add me on FB - Musicland Munich QZ - don`t miss the QZ !

Thanks a lot for this great sharing!

It's fairly strange that officialy released recording has a lot of guitar overdubs but no vocal overdubs. A lot of weak vocal moments still present on it. Or in fact real live performance has a lot more? :)

To me, it's not so much 'weak' as it is over strained! And some of the awful phrasing choices (ie. screams in "Headlong") really do make me cringe. It's a wonder he didn't destroy his voice if that's how he treated it throughout the BTTL tour! Could have ended up like 1986-87 Elton John going that route.

I'd have to sit down and compare the two versions song by song, side by side. Right now, I'm not ready to deal with something like that, but maybe I can talk Gregsynth and TSS_Killer into it? We'll see :-)

Thanks a lot for sharing!

Now that the topic of audience recordings of officially released concerts is discussed:
1) I think the audience tape of Milton Keynes hasn't been up on QZ yet... Since it's released officially I was never in a hurry to get it but lately I've been thinking it might be nice to be able to check it out.
Which brings me to...
2) Wasn't there someone on here - I don't remember who - who said to have a good/great sounding cassette version of Milton Keynes and who was willing to let it transfer to digital? I can't remember who it was or what topic it was in though...

Maybe someone can help my faded memories :-)

Just listened to part 1 of this concert and really enjoyed it.
While it is - obviously - not a great sounding recording it's very lively and you can fully appreciate the fact Brian and band are totally going for it. A really enthusiastic performance in front of an equally enthusiastic adoring audience creating a wonderful warm atmosphere.
Couldn't care less about any vocal or other imperfections: This is a beauty!
