Bohemian Rhapsody edit versions

I've heard that a few countries issued edit versions of Bo Rhap. Anyone heard these and can you map out the contents of the song?

Seems ludicrous to me, I don't see how anything can be removed.

Thanks

In Autumn of 1978, EMI re-issued "Bohemian Rhapsody" in France. This release is noted in the Autumn 1978 Fan Club magazine. The magazine says nothing about BR being edited. Speculation surrounds the existence of the edit. Apparently, one surviving copy of this single containing the edit was sold on eBay a few years ago and there was a good deal of discussion on this board about it, marking one of the more recent resurgences of the topic of the edit.

To my knowledge, neither the eBay seller nor buyer file-shared the track. I recall posting in the thread about the auction that I'd at least love to see a description of the edit (the request was directed at the seller and buyer in the hopes one would read the thread), if for no other reason than to satisfy a large chunk of curiosity surround the edit. No description was forthcoming.

No one in the Queen collecting community at large seems to have heard it or knows much more about it, as far as I can see (correct me if I'm wrong). There are at least two fake files claiming to be the edit out there circulating (or at least there were), but to the best of my knowledge, the authentic edit has not been shared. IF it's in a serious Queen collector's hands right now, they are keeping it under tight wraps.

That's all *I* know. If anyone else can expand on (or can update with corrections) any of those details, I'd love to know more myself.

It's worth pointing out that the label of the French 7" promo from 1978 states the song is 3:30 in length.

3:30? I'd wage a guess that its the song til around the solo preceding the opera part, followed by the end, cutting the opera and heavy sections. That'd make the most sense to me.

I guess it takes out the opening section and starts with "mama, just killed a man". The opera section must have been tampered with, too.

Bo Rhap is obviously just great the way it is....but I would be very curious to hear the edit!

In 2002 i downloaded from Audio Galaxy (RIP) an edit of BR which length is 3.04. I still have it

^ Most of us have heard that one. I think it's just fan made, as the official edit is supposedly longer than 3.04.

From what I heard from a person who claims to have the promo, the edits are done in basically the same places as on the Live Magic version

I know this has nothing to do with an official release, but I personally made an edited version of Bohemian Rhapsody and it's length is 3:35. I admit, it's not the best of edits, but it works for me.

Simple. Like a Mythbuster, I wanted to see if it was plausible to make a single length version.
