Unknown Queen/Bowie Song (probably not!) ??

Take a look at the songwriting credits here for a song called 'Knowledge':

This is credited to all four Queen members, Bowie (under his real name), and J Harris (is this John Harris, formerly of Queen's crew?).

Is this:

a) an alternate version of Under Pressure, or
b) another completely unknown of, and so far unreleased Queen & Bowie track, or
c) just another obscure bastardised version of Under Pressure (like Ice Ice Baby) by someone incidentally called J Harris?

I think this "cool cat" with Bowie!

There is a third Queen/Bowie song out there, Rhys Thomas confirmed this (then deleted his comment a few weeks later).

You're right. I misread it. This is more puzzling therefore, because Freddie is missing, and therefore it isn't Under Pressure.

Perhaps this could be an old unreleased tracks from the archives, and they've now put the relevant paperwork in place to register the official credits, less Freddie, for a future release? (unless J Harris is a pseudonym for Fred?!?)

Freddie's list has some fascinating entries...

"If I Saw You Now" seems to have a later BMI work number, so perhaps was more recently registered - and it's credited to all four members plus another writer.

All the unreleased demo tracks from Freddie's solo box set start with "55" and are 7 digits long. Right next to "It's So You" is one called "It's Good To Be The King" and a little earlier in the number sequencing, "JUEGALE APUESTALE" Anyone have a translation for that?

In the case when another, unknown songwriter is involved, it simply means that the original writers' song was sampled. So 'Ali', 'Knowledge', and one other (I believe it's 'It's Alright' or something like that) are songs by other people who sampled 'Under Pressure'.

Same with 'If I Saw You Now' and 'Sounds of the Underground', which I noticed on Roger's link.

So no, these aren't previously unreleased songs...

As Lord Gaga says, probably 99% of the entries on there for songs that we don't know about but feature the Queen boys are just songs where Queen songs have been sampled or altered in some way.

Knowledge has certainly been on the BMI catalogue for years, but what's very curious about it is the lack of Fred's name. If Fred was there, it'd almost certainly mean that the song is simply something by this J Harris that uses Under Pressure in some way. But there are no known Queen songs that just have Bri, Rog and John (and Bowie) as the authors, which suggests that this is something else.

I personally think that this is just a mistake on the BMI's part, and that Fred's name should be there, and it is, after all, just an obscure song that uses Under Pressure.

What I find annoying about that site, is that there's no way to tell when the songs were registered. The numbers related to each entry - despite what somebody said above - do not chronologically correlate with when the songs were written.

It turns out the BMI catalogue numbers are done alphabetically. I don't quite get how that would work, without the numbers having to constantly change, but it's definitely an alphabetical rather than chronological numbering system.

Which still means that there's no way to see when the songs were registered.

Has been already discussed. "JUEGALE APUESTALE" is just a French cover of Play the game. The rest of those mysterious titles are just tracks that sample relevant Queen songs. That's why credits are given to following Queen members. F.E. "Ali" turned out to be a rap song sampling famous Under Pressure riff.

"Juegale apuéstale" is not french,it´s the spanish version for "Play the game" by the columbian band Aterciopelados featured on the album "Tributo a Queen"(Queen songs covered in spanish by famous latinamerican and spanish bands) from 1997.
