Just watched the set online - same lineup as the gigs last year. (Brian, Roger, Adam, Rufus, Spike Edney, that bass player) Anyone else see it?
To me, it was a bit cringe worthy especially when Fun (who are these guys exactly? never heard of them before) sang Somebody To Love, Adam Lambert does a much better job in my opinion.
Set list (not sure if it was edited at all? I don't think so)
1. Bohemian Rhapsody - first verse + guitar solo
2. Another One Bites The Dust
3. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
4. Who Wants To Live Forever
Adam leaves stage, Fun enters
5. Somebody To Love w/ Fun
Adam returns
6. Fat Bottomed Girls (Adam + Fun lead singer duet)
Fun leaves stage
7. Dragon Attack
8. Bohemian Rhapsody - rock part
9. We Will Rock You
10. We Are The Champions
Surprised they didn't do Under Pressure - either as a duet with Adam Lambert + Fun guy, or Adam + Roger...

Every second, and I hope I never ever forget it. That is how rock is done and it was inspirational.

How old are you? 12? Have you ever watched a concert by a
band called Queen which is one whose singer was called
Freddie Mercury? Try it. They were really fabulous.

GonnaUseMyPrisoners - glad you enjoyed it. Just some of the high notes by Fun especially in Somebody To Love made me cringe. I am very happy to see Brian and Roger perform, I just prefer Adam cos I think he does Freddie voice justice, he obviously looked up to him.

I'm 50. I saw Queen live in 1980 and 1982 and they were life-changing. And in 2006 - in Chicago, whereaftter Brian posted a comment about that show being like the old days. CUZ IT WAS. Fuck your attitude, ya cunt. You don't know squat cuz it's obvious you didn't LISTEN to tonight's show at all. Adam was perfect. But go on, please, continue to post hateful things about ALL of this band's current activities. Why not just go join Feist's fanclub or something... Yawn.

I'm not here with this bad attitude you're thinking. I respect if you
enjoyed the mini-concert but I just cannot understand how can
anybody review it the way you did. I did listen and I thought it was
awful. The Adam moments, the Fun. moments even worse.
I'm a real Queen fan and I love the fact Brian and Roger still want
to play, but I think they have had enough.
The concert was no good and for moments I was ashamed
for the band I love and respect so much.
oh! let's have a thread where we all give each other names and bitch around like there's no tomorrow. THAT'LL be nice.

I am actually someonewhoLOVESadam. I think he did a fine to good job. I still like him better on his own stuff though.

thanks for sharing the visuals, too. !
i agree that mr. lambert did his task very well. at some points he lacks with the timing... but hey, that's life... or live...
too bad they only played some common songs.
i would have loved to hear them doing some odd songs like "the miracle" or something... but it's the "queen machine".... kind of liked the outdo of "somebody to love"!!
...anyway: nice to see that they're back on stage. even if it is for one off performance which doesn't hold any big surprises.

Your more detailed and more valid criticism was not posted for me to see last night, so we crossed paths. I jumped all over your condescencion because I was prepared for it by my past interactions on this forum. If I was wrong, so be it.
Look, no one can deny there were tiny imperfections here and there (more on those later), but you lose sight of the experience when you sit there and count them up like they're parking violations. Indeed, in doing so, all you're truly doing is (wittingly or unwittingly) trying to make a case for why Queen should tuck it away and seal the box, because (let's all chant it together now) "no one can replace Freddie". Pointing out every tiny imperfection is like subliminally repeating that phrase over and over and over, and trust me, it need not be done! NO ONE ANYWHERE will EVER dispute "no one can replace Freddie". So honestly, can we stop "saying it" both verbally and by implication, i.e. always focusing the negative with every new thing Queen does?
For once, I'd like to come back to this forum and see some appreciation being expressed to the band we supposedly all adore, but it's so trifling, on the whole. Pepsi commercials aside e.g., Brian & Rog have done a great deal of things since Freddie's passing that deserve high praise.
Last night, the elder fellas delivered an amazingly energetic set (particularly for gentlemen of that age) complete with lesser performed songs, new nuances, interpretations and improvizations, precision playing, and a lively stage presence, which added up to a thoroughly enjoyable (and FREE via the internet) performance, IMO.
The singers bravely sang high notes that Freddie would seldom have attempted live, and perhaps in their excitement (and let's face it, with a fraction of the rehearsal time Freddie would have had) turn they slipped in very minor ways, here and there. So what? In general, their voices showed they were capable of what was in their imaginations, and I loved what they did with the songs. The love they brought to the songs and that they both put their own stamps on the melodies, most times brilliantly, says a lot - they're the real deals from a younger generation. They weren't/aren't BETTER, they are quite literally "differently abled" and made the most of their talents in that way. That's why I was thrilled at what I heard and saw.
Life is to goddamned short to always be picking at the negatives in great shows... leave that for the day when you're rehearsing for a band. Good luck.
