^ It's not an edit for adverts, anyway it's hardly likely they would insert adverts during the credits is it?

In the UK the video was premiered at the end of a hastily cobbled together clip show with an intro by Elton John, I think it was a few days after Freddie died. That version had the click/wave as the last shot... i watched it over and over when i was young... I hope my feeble old brain isn't playing tricks on me... wish i could find the show!

@Kurgan - sorry I wasn't clear, on the Axl doc it cuts to brian and has an advert over the image.

I've probably got it on tape somewhere if it was shown in the UK.
Was it part of a longer program, and If so, do you remember the name of it?

I have that on VHS from the original BBC broadcast - it may even have been as soon as the evening of (or maybe the day after) the day that he died.

it was a compilation of performances and interviews, mostly edited from the Magic Years DVDs I think, and it heavily featured their Live Aid performance. Whilst there was nothing new in it, at least the BBC put something on in tribute.

A visibly upset Elton gave an introduction piece to camera, and yes, they closed with the TATDOOL promo, though without looking it up I can't recall which edit it was.

Thanks for that info cmsdrums, It's probably what Vali may have been thinking of.
Perhaps you could check it out at some point?

*** UPDATE ***
After checking my VHS copy I can confirm it does not have the wave at the end either.
I also discovered I have the full version with the animation, I'll upload it to YouTube at some point.

No probs - I need to dig out my VHS player anyway to preserve some old stuff digitally

I wonder where the ''wave'' version was actually shown then.

Anyone remember the bit after the last line when Freddie exits the screen with a click of his fingers?

I hadn't looked at this in years but now find a small change where now the last we see of Freddie is when he says "I still love you" and then instead of the finger click Brian has been edited in.Why change what was just right?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. You´re right, i wasn´t aware that the ending was changed, because for years i remember the "original" edit - and for me - the only one that makes sense because it was Freddie´s last take and he meant it as a goodbye to his fans.

Here is the "original" editing on the "Champions of the world" documentary. Clip starts around 7:45

This was very well spot, and since people from Queen Productions read Queenzone, i believe that this is a good opportunity for someone to tell Rhys Thomas about this, because this is easily something that can go unnoticed for future releases, and it´s a good opportunity to let them know that the original video with Freddie´s wave should become the official video to this song again.

But since no one here in Queenzone remembers it, i´m beginning to question myself if i really saw it outside the "Champs of the world" doc.

A good way to find out is if someone has this video recorded from TV pre- 1999.

All things being considered, I think a last shot of him smiling to himself as he looks down and up again to say that last line is as equally touching.
Do we really need a final wave as well?
Perhaps that's why it was edited a little.

I did a bit of trawling last night and couldn't find any pre 1999 video.

What I did find was this...

Its not great, someone has added the behind the scenes shots to what might be the original video.

A reason why they probably changed it is; Freddie does he wave/click thing at about 3:55... there's still 20 seconds of music to go and that over black doesn't really work.

Just a thought anyway.

Folks, lol. That was just the way that that was edited for the documentary lol. There are four versions I think. The one with Freddie at the end and I can't remember exactly how that one ends I guess it had Roger drumming maybe? The second one that was different was from the U.S. Hollywood Records music home video on VHS called "Classic Queen" from 1992 that had the animation throughout a bunch of it and ended I think showing animation as well. The third short promotional film for "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" was the black and white film interspersed with a goldish yellowish tint to it ever so often with clips throughout their career. If I recall that came out around the time of "Classic Queen" either shortly before the music home video was released or at that time I think. That would have been about the summer of 1992. Then the fourth short promotional film just shows and has Brian at the end. If I am getting all of this straight...
