Obviously QZ wouldn't be what it is without the 'tapers'
Technology today allows several methods to be used.
As an experiment I took my iPod classic to the Stormtroopers exhibition a while back.
I used the memo recording facility and a standard apple mic (on a genuine apple headphone set)
The music I recorded was not as loud as a gig would be, but you get the idea.
The good thing is the sound is recorded in wav format, albeit mono.
I think it sounds nice and clear, I'll post a sample for your comments.

I'm not trying to give anyone any ideas who may be attending The Cross re-union gig ; )

I just left my iPod on record as I walked around.
Nothing interesting really, just me commentating to the wife!
The purpose of the post is just to show the sort of audio recording quality you get from an iPod.

Did I say that already?

^ LOL. Bless :)

I wish I was going. I thought you'd be one of the first to get a ticket, Kurg......

So you could post a picture of the stub and say "I was there"......

Gonna TRY to record a Stevie wonder gig this December in its entirety.

Especially considering giants like he and Prince (well, Prince is pretty short) seldom release anything live. (When clearly they are among the best of the best)

Just like how there's very little Little Richard gigs available anywhere. That man is gloryhallastoopidificatiously amazing live.

Without a field recorder I'm not so sure how adequate it will be. But I'm taking a 32gig sdram just to make sure I have enough. Probably opt for AUDIO ONLY.

No shame in this. I'm trying to preserve the legacy and won't be selling it.

Very often the arrangements are changed almost entirely. A few years back Stevie jokingly did Signed sealed delivered as a country song (even acting the twang out of it)
"Come tonight! Come see the Overbite! Come to Ogre Battle, FIGHT!"

If you are using a phone I would suggest testing it out first if you haven't already.
Perhaps try recording something loud from your HIFI speakers.
I only say this because I noticed some bad distortion on recordings from my phone, where as the iPod coped much better.
Like I already mentioned, the added advantage of the iPod is that the file is recorded in WAV format.

I will look for an iPhone/iPod to borrow for the event. However I tried taking my phone to band practice (pretty loud) plenty of distortion.
I have a galaxy 3.

I still hope for the best if I can't procure a good recorder.

Any advice for SHARING the file if it happens?

I'd prefer to keep it cryptic so it won't show in searches. Is there a host site that allows free uploads?

Btw. I never do this. Figure I should ask

If you want a nice recording then you have to be in a good position, ie not too close to any speakers.

Well. I did it. The entire show excepting the gospel choir that opened up. I believe I caught some of the vocalist that was prior to the show as well.

Odd thing though. Late tickets thanks to me not having adequate transportation at the moment. So my friends who attended are kinda vocal on parts.

Also, the sound mix got boomy after the intermission in my location.

Overall it's listenable but far from perfect.

Reviewing it as we speak.

Unique performance. Even Johnny Mathis was scheduled to sing. How bizarre is that? I honestly thought he was dead.

Thank you for the link. If out If curiousity any of you few posters would want it I'll find a method to share it. (*free obviously, Stevie is a patron of the arts. Anything I do is just to preserve it.

An hour later. .. unfortunately the house boomy mix that happened after intermission made most of the second half of the gig unlistenable to all but the most die hard fans.

Only song from that half that came out great was IF IT'S MAGIC.

Maybe they caught on to me. Go figure. Saving a performance for posterity. Hopefully it was filmed. *(warts and all)
