I was waiting for Greg's comment! LOL

Oh no, I'm not changing my name again.
Besides, one can argue that being real is better than being a lord.
...or is it !?

Thanks for sharing this.
I think everything has been said about this tour. Freddie Mercury was on the top of his game.
I really believe that he must have encountered perfect weather conditions for his voice. In Rock In Rio his voice suffered not only from the cigars but weather as well. Many singers take some time to get used to fast climate changes, but in here we can really say that his pipes sound as clean as it could be. What a voice!

Great observation.
Look at Freddie in late 78. His voice steadily deteriorated throughout Nov/Dec 78, hitting a low point in Chicago and Vancouver. But by the time they got to the warm Oakland air, he was soaring again. Likely not a coincidence !

Not a coincidence at all.
I first heard about weather influence on the voice, when someone was speaking about Pavarotti and the fact that opera singers don´t do many outdoor live concerts, exactly because of the correlation between weather and voice. This was about his 3 Tenors tour or his Pavarotti and friends concert, i´m not sure about this.
Of course this affects all voices, but they said that singers with a very specific voice feel it more than others, and specially singers who have to stretch their pipes to the limit - like opera singers and in my opinion Freddie Mercury.
And it makes sense, i´m not a singer myself but i´ve noticed that there are times when it´s easier for me to do falsetto voice and other times - nothing comes out! I don´t smoke.
Here´s a great account on this, on the Britney Spears documentary "I am Britney Jean" about her concerts in Las Vegas witch is in the desert and has huge influence on singers.
It´s the segment 1:20:00/ 1:20:20,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elOp-QPORkA
Freddie did the best he could and it must gave been very frustrating for him to deal with conditions that he couldn´t control, but in the 81 South America concerts everything was excellent.

Mentioning Britney in the same sentence as Elton John. Just so wrong !!
