Hi folks has anyone got a rough idea of how much Tim Staffell would have made out of his days with Smile and Queen ?
· Member since
I think there's only one person who could even slightly accurately estimate that, and I can see no reason why he would do so.

wasnt it Tim that collaborated with Brian on 'Doing Alright'? I suppose Tim would only know about Royalties

Interesting thought, I've often thought how much he made/makes from the royalties.

I doubt royalties for a co-write on one of Queen's less popular albums makes for a big pay cheque these days. I'm sure he made a nice sum of money in the last 40 years from just that single song alone though.

Interesting article about royalties:

Too bad for him that the song has never made it onto a live album or any compilation other than the BBC stuff.

I'm sure if you show him your weekly paycheck he'll gladly share his royalty information with you.

he's actually a Uni teacher in London now, quite bitter about Freddie, funny guy though, doesn't strike me as being someone with plenty of money anyway

Don't know why he'd feel the need to be bitter about Freddie - didn't Tim leave Smile cos at the time he felt They had gone as far as they could and he had a better offer? I suppose it's understandable that hindsight would naturally leave him to think "what if I'd stayed?", but in truth the others guys might easily not have made it without Freddie either.

Life happens.

^ what he said.

Tim has said he paved the way for Freddie. Had he not left Smile, the whole thing would've never happened. How that translates to bitterness eludes me..

Why would we even need to know that?

But since you ask, I reckon he got more out of Thomas The fecking Tank Engine :p

The more interesting thing to arise from this thread is his "bitterness" towards Freddie. If that is true, then he is a petty and jealous little man.

I doubt he's jealous. I was just reading some of his entries from the Ask Tim section of a Queen fan site (Jazz something?), circa 1998, and he said he had no regrets about leaving Smile. Like the Wiz says above, Tim had said that if he hadn't left, Queen wouldn't have happened.

I don't think for a minute that he is bitter towards Freddie, all I'm saying is that if that statement was true, then it'd be pure pettiness.

Anyone know how to contact him?
His web is out of service.
