Hello you all, I'm out in the light for one moment, before going back lurking....

...and I'd like to talk...or make you talk about this lost chapter of Queen live history referred at various times and places as 'improvisation', 'Impromptu', 'Rock In Rio Blues' and so on.

As a major Queen FAN since 1995...

(I had 2 websites Queen Web Killers - Then QueenFrance....a Big collection of vinyls and books, been to conventions dressed as Deaky..... - and closed, sold, gave up everything of it in 2005 - new career in a new town, haha)

...I remember going to Camden scooting for my first cd bootlegs - watching with disdain the occasional guy shameless selling empty CD's with artwork for 10 bucks - and one thing that stands above all was this version of "the Improvisation" with this slow paced drums intro, chorus drenched piano (which I assumed back then was played by Freddie....what a disappointment years later....) and it's evolution over the years. I think it's good benchmark of the band's onstage feeling each night : bad impro, bad night / good impro, good night.

I'd love to hear your stories, remarks, questions about this very unique track that never gets mentioned as much as it should be.

Impromptu? You mean their live improvisational jams from '84-'86? I really don't there's much to discuss about them

I'm actually curious as to whose idea it was behind the Improvisation / Impromptu pieces in the first place :-)

The second most irritating thing about Queen shows, after Brian's never changing guitar solo.

Never liked it but I am also curious as to who came up with this, etc.
To talk about composition or who wrote it might not be that relevant as it's a very basic bluesy improv but still SOMEONE must have started it. Maybe each band member (plus Spike?) improvised their own parts and then it grew from there.
It's credited to "Queen" but that could be attribured to Queen's post-1989 arrangement with writing credits.
Also, it's likely that it originated from a full band jam rehearsing for The Works tour. If this jam included Spike, shouldn't the writing rights read Queen, Edney? After all, they went with Queen, Moran with All God's People.
OR If Spike had nothing to do with it, does this mean that the song originated in a studio jam with Freddie on piano/keyboards?

I wouldn't call this a very fascinating discussion but I am honestly curious about it. Has this been discussed in the past? in an interview by the band or something like that?

Well, this is news to me. Was it Spike playing?, Spike and Freddie? Taped?

Always enjoy hearing 'Impromptu'...a somewhat polished but still raw studio version would have worked on AKOM or The Miracle

BM's solo evolved quite a bit over the years. I guess it depends what you hear and what your listening for.
