I think the reason was because Japan was really embracing the CD market (and they still do to this day - CD sales in Japan are some of the best in the world), and vinyl was starting to make a downturn especially in the 90's.

Fortunately though, Japan has been not immune to the recent resurgence of vinyl, so who knows, maybe some day we'll see some "new" Queen releases or re-issues from Japan in that format. Japan has the best quality vinyl pressings in the world, IMO.

correct. 1989 was the first year the CD as a format sold more than the LP in Japan.
