This photo was taken in 2004 on the Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain.
"Here is a big hot stuff from Emilio in Spain (thanks a lot, Emilio!) :
A few days ago, i bought the spanish edition of Rolling Stone magazine and i found that pic of John in Lanzarote taken from a spanish band -not very famous- called Quebec. That's what they said about the pic:
"Hi, we're the band Quebec and for 19 months we have been doing over 500 gigs tributing The Beatles. The last gig in Lanzarote, in may 2004, we went to play at Harley Rock and we saw, sitting here without anyone recognising him, Queen's John Deacon. He told us he hasn't played anymore the bass since the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, he only meets sometimes some friends and plays the drums a little time". "
and there´s a link in this story about some girls running into him in Lanzarote also:

P.S: The band is called Question and here´s the website with a picture of John to confirm it:

Bit weird for John to comment that he hasn't played a bass since the Freddie Tribute - I would've thought that MiH and No-One But You definitely counted for him! And GODDAMN he's aged worse than Roger by the looks of that photo - and keep in mind, the photo's 10 years old now. Pick up your mighty bass once more Deaky, and join Brian and Roger for the new album!

My initial information was taken from here : http://brianmaysbirdbeak.blogspot.sk/2012/10/john-deacon-where-is-he-now.html but your source definitely seems more reliable :-)

The photos would have been taken before he died.

One thing that i like about this pictures is that John seems to be happy and enjoying himself. I hope that he´s in a happy place enjoying life.
