Queen
Live at Rainbow Theatre, London, UK
March 31st 1974

Audio source 1 :
SBD > multi-track master tape > editing, overdubbing > Trident tape > Elektra reel-to-reel tape > digital transfer
> 96kHz 32bit PCM file > Cool Edit Pro > downsampling to 44kHz / 16 bit (for making it "CD-friendly"), correcting the
speed to match it the older audio sources and the BBC video, patching the right channel gap in Keep Yourself Alive
with information from the left channel, splitting > WAV files

Audio source 2 :
SBD > ? > "Master of Sheetkeeckers" LP > ? > CD > WAV > Cool Edit Pro (hiss reduction)

Audio source 3 :
Video master > ? > VHS(x) > DVD > WAV

First of all, this was done BY me and FOR me. That's why I'm not claiming anything like "this is the best you're gonna get", only "it's as good as I was able to do it".

The main source is a 96kHz/32bit transfer of an Elektra reel to reel tape owned by SvdV and share here :

When I was listening to it I noticed it runs slower than the old sources. After comparing it with my old source
and the BBC video I came to something what is HOPEFULLY the correct speed - I can't guarantee it's correct, but as I wrote it matches the speed of the old source(s) and of the BBC video bits, the speed of Procession appears to match the speed of the album version too. Of course if someone can make a better job, feel free to do so.

I took the speed-corrected 96kHz wav file and downsampled it to 48kHz for synchronizing with the video which will be shared here soon. When I was trying to sync it to the video, I noticed that "what comes next? " from Son And Daughter is missing, so I added it from the video source. Also after a closer examination I noticed that my old copy of "Sheetkeeckers" transfer (at least that's how I have labelled it, can somebody confirm it's this bootleg?) has a few seconds more at the beginning of Procession, so I added the missing seconds. Then I noticed that there's a small in the right channel in Keep Yourself Alive, I "fixed" it by simply merging the fragmentary data in the right channel with the data from the left channel. Only AFTER I finished it I noticed that it was already fixed by Wer-al-zwore for the 44kHz version. He used a different method - he patched the gap with the old radio source, but you can notice
that in his version the speed changes.

So, in his version you get a sudden speed/pitch change for a few seconds, in my version you jump from stereo to mono for a few seconds. I don't know which version is better, as I said above I did this primarly for myself and I prefer the jump to mono, your oppinion may differ, please see the queenzone thread mentioned above for download of the original 44kHz version with werakzwore's fix.

The resulting wav file was again downsampled to 44.1kHz so that it can be burned to a CD and split to 8 was files, each containing one song. The wav files were converted to
FLAC level 8 with Trader's Little Helper with SBE correction. The tracks were then tagged with good old Winamp, which really whips the llama's ass.
