Brian May wants Freddie Mercury movie to be 'one million per cent truthful’

One things for certain this film ain't coming out soon and I mean the earliest we'll see it now is 2016.

I did hear (just before Dexter Fletcher abandoned the project) that filming was due to start THIS month so I have no idea if they were that close to getting final casting, etc. I'm not an expert in film production but surely if they were within a couple of months of shooting the picture then quite a lot of pre-production work would have been done apart from finalising the script whichs seems the delaying issue. Casting, location work, etc should have really have got to an advanced stage??

I can remember Jim Beach in an interview saying that the film would be out in 2013 and back then I thought that was a long time away! It's a good job Johnny Depp never agreed to this anyway as he would be way too old by the time they shoot it.

I suppose a lot of films have these problems along the way and it's just because we're fans that we get to know and read whats going on and the umpteen problems they're facing. I do think like others though that members of QP have probably caused much of the delays. Understandable I suppose as they're the ones that actually were there at the time with Freddie but fucking annoying for those who are waiting for this thing to actually end up being made!

Based on Brian's quote, there is not a lot of clarity on who decides what the story is. If it's Roger, Brian and Jim Beach, history shows they do not want a warts and all biopic, they want a triumphant celebration of Queen ending with Freddie and the boys at Knebworth, and capitalize on the soundtrack so we can finally get Knebworth: Freddie's Final Triumph in all formats. Call me cynical.[/QUOTE]

That's not cynical, that's very realistic.

Except for the fact that they aren't going to release Knebworth, when they can do a re-re-re-re-release of Wembley for a fraction of the cost. ;)

Brian's become as much of a politician who can speak out of both sides of his mouth as well as the politicians he despises.

Yep. He's a dude I once rspected very much but now he will say virtually anything to get what he wants or to sell more product.

I'd be happy with that. I got into Queen because of the music so it's Queen the band and Fred the musician I want to see, unlike the Aids junkies here who seem endlessly fascinated with who he slept with, who he caught HIV from, when he knew he had HIV etc. The kind of people who pore over old press pictures looking for blemishs on his skin. Imagine the wank fest they will have if the movie focuses on his illness rather than his legacy as a musician.

Absolutely 100% (see that Brian, that's the whole.......) agree with you but, sadly, that ain't gonna shift tickets at the box office.

Not sure about that. Ever hear of the happy Hollywood ending? You can't have a happy ending if the story concentrates on the period after 1986.

i wonder if they would ever make a biopic film on Adam Lambert in 40 years time of will
he have fizzled out long before then??

Yep.. after Brian and Roger and John have departed he will be the most qualified person to carry on the Queen name. Adam Lambert is Queen. (Remember this all you people buying tickets to the new shows... it's your fault....)

O.m.g i hope not!
There is only one regal Queen and that was the majestic Freddie,
Lambert can only dream of been as mega talented as Freddie.
I would not p**s on lambert if he was on fire ! l.o.l

Careful Gerry or the Glamberts will be after you with pitchforks...

In their eyes, Lambert's legacy is already bigger then Freddie's, John Lennon's and Elvis's combined!

Brian...

...cannot ever be truthful about the agent who played Freddie Mercury, because this agent also played Michael Jackson etc.

Wouldn't it be much more entertaining if the biopic told the real story of Freddie Mercury including the fact he was married, also played on the big stage Michael Jackson, and was also cloned by the USA Government with his cloned self having a back operation and his "cloned selves" dad is the agent who is Pete Townshend.

That would be the real truth!

Thing is that Freddie was such a contradictionary individual, i doubt he himshelf could play his own self.
Mercurial more wayward by the hour, ring any bells?
From things written/told/documented about him you get a sence that he almost turned to a human kaleidoscope of most aspects of human nature, combined.
(...ok, the times he blossomed ALSO helped enhance it)
But how the hell you capture that on film?

You can only get away (truthful-wise) , and that to some degree, if focus to a period of his life and portait his most apparent qualities.
Perhaps a Freddie Mercury SAGA could do some justice.
At least way more interesting than Lord of the rings/The Hobbit.

The whole idea of biopic film on Freddie is ridiculous because he was such a larger than life character
that no one on earth could portray him accurately.
I think something like this would be a massive flop and get slated by the press, best thing to do is leave well alone!
