Now if we can put aside the fact that Gary found his Queen vocation, via "Stars in their Eyes" and has taken the route of "lookalike" / tribute act, do you think he would have been considered for Queen a la' Adam Lambert, purely has a top class vocalist who is voice is well suited to Queen songs? ,purely on vocal merit.
. Or did he automatically lose the chance ,as he became his own entity with his tribute act.
. Can't help thinking, he would have been well up for the job, inbetween Brian and Roger.- minus the lookalike persona of course.

No.. because Queen do not want to be a parody of themselves, they do not want a Queen tribute act to front them because this would make Queen a Queen tribute act.

Will never understand why of all the people on earth they chose that thing though?!

Like I said, on vocal merit, if he wasn't a tribute act.

Besides if anyone gets the tribute act for freddie...its the singer from the tribute band MERCURY......he is the one that matched freddies voice almost perfect....x

But you also said "Or did he automatically lose the chance ,as he became his own entity with his tribute act.".. to be fair...

For vocals alone, yes! It would have been great to hear the old tunes sung like they once were sung and imo any new matereal they released would be more easily accepted if vocals were similar to fred. Initially I became a queen fan coz I liked Freddies voice. So personally i would have liked him to be considered. Hearing gary play with queen however would be far more pleasing than seeing it. Dont get me wrong hes quite good with all the moves and stuff but its not freddie and is actually quite cringe worthy at times. Perhaps purely as a studio performer.who knows what they were considering I just wish they'd never considerd lambert
If you ever lean out of line......so help me lord i'll flop you lower than whale shit!

Just saw Marc Martel live twice this week ...
At some songs (like LOML) he sounds very much like Freddie. He also sings the songs with lots of power...
I think he'd be perfect for the job :-)

Isn't it strange that this largely redundant topic has turned up again.

No Gary Mullen, Marc Martel or any other Freddie "tribute" will never tour with Queen. both BM and RT have said over and over that they have no wish to share a stage with a sound alike.

No matter how good these singers are, they are just not the real thing, imagine how those guys would feel being on stage with someone who has a similar voice but is a completely different person to Freddie. At some point during the show Brian and Roger would end up knowing that the guy singing is a second rate Freddie. No disrespect to anyone. At least with Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert there can be no direct comparisons with FM. And looking at things artistically they are doing something different rather than trying to emulate what they used to do.

Exactly.
"He knew exactly what was going on. He knew that was his last performance, he could barely stand." Roger Taylor commenting on Freddie's last video appearance.
