My vote goes to a not famous song by George Michael about his splitting with his for 8 years partner named

Where I Hope You Are

George uses a vocoder but i imagine Freddie with his "thiner",  These are the days of our Lives, voice singing this wonderfully...   The lyrics are also very powerful and deep.

Where I Hope You Are-lyrics

For so long
There’s been no-one else I cared about

That my heart could really be so wrong again
Well it wears me out

I had a picture in my soul
Some place warm we could hang out when we’re old
Now it’s just – where I hope you are

These days, in so many, so many ways
My life gets bad for you

But your face when you look at me, look at me that way
Tears me in two

I had a picture, it’s not your fault
But the chair in the room where I get old
Now it’s just – where I hope you are

Oh, but there was a time
All I had to do was look at you
The world was mine
I’m telling you the world was mine
I’m so sorry

It’s like all of those deleted scenes you told me about
I’d pick them from the floor
Say Darlin’, show them all once more.
For me.

A child’s fears
For so many, so many years
The good life got bad for you
But there’s no-one at the end of that smoking gun
Can’t you see your Mum and Dad just won the day

But it can happen, I’ve been told
Sometimes, babe,  drunken angels stumble home
Now it’s just where I hope you are

Oh, but there was a time
All I had to do was look at you
The world was mine
I’m telling you the world was mine
I’m so sorry
It’s like all of those deleted scenes you told me about
I would pick them from the floor
Say Darlin’,  show them all once more, for me.
For me.
For me.
For me.
For me.

I’m so sorry…

It would be interesting for me to hear how Freddie would have sang Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word by Elton John, Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor and Come Together by The Beatles. I'm not sure why exactly these songs popped in my head though. I imagine 80s Freddie singing them.

Not trying to stir things up, but Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera.

Ah... the old rumour is waking /// but seriously, I've written to Rhys about it and he assured me that he would check what's behind the story/gossip/myth of the Phantom recordings with Freddie. I can imagine the way that Freddie is singing it and if the vocals which have been laid are as good as I guess they are, then with Lloyd Webber's approval we could get to hear a truly fantastic recording/demo.

I always thought that Rainbow's "I Surrender" would have sounded good with Freddie's vocal.
Joyful the sound

Well, considering Freddie's brilliant falsetto qualities (as on 'pain is too close to pleasure', 'cool cat' and numerous other segments) it would be very, very, interesting to hear him nail the Bee Gees sat night fever canon.

Dream On by Aerosmith. I actually thought it was Queen the first ever time I heard the song circa 1989 just before The Miracle was released! I was young ....!!

I just think some of Brian & Roger's solo stuff would have been classic Queen tracks with Freddie's vocals. Back to the light would have been a great follow up to innuendo in my opinion.

Aerosmith songs would be quite good for Mercury to sing. They use a lot of harmonies also.

1) Dream on ( i agree) A power ballad fitting Freddie's tamperament.

2) Living On The Edge- The song  escalates so powerfully that Freddie would also do it justice as Tyler does.

3)Crazy. Especialy the chorus. The way it uses that descending scale melody and harmonies.Perfect for Freddie. It would be even more moving i think.

4) I Dont want to miss a thing. Again the chorus with the orchestra would be Epic with Freddie. Also its Michael Kamen behind it who also arrenged the Who Wants To Live Forever orchestra section.

5) Sweet Emotion. Would be nice to hear those perfect harmonies (combined with that great bass line)  by the Queen gang.

May i also add two 007 candidates

1) Golden Eye by Tina Turner. My God, Freddie could do wonders with this one. It has adventure, passsion, mistique and then great release in the chorus with some nice belting. Tina is superb but Freddie could also do justice with that number( even if it is written by Bono and the lyrics might be a little too gay for a man to sing)

2)Skyfall by Adele. The verses on this one would be a true joyride for Freddie to sing. He would have so much fun doing his "Aretha Franklin" interpretation. And he would be more dynamic than Adele during chorus.

*extra candidate while on Adele is Rolling in the Deep. Stacato rythem and great melody. Freddie's early 80's voice would sound so good on this one.

Stelios, nice topic! My choice would be Missing You by John Waite, or Figure in a Landscape, also by John Waite. Ballroom Blitz by The Sweet.

Stairway to heaven might have been up his street
The other "crazy " the dance song also
Oh bless my soul
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
Does that make me crazy!, etcetc
A step up from you don't fool me, and he liked that kind of music, and that crazy song, had that raw rock like vocal- wild tuneful and v good
He could have sang that really well. And think Queen hot space for the backing.
Suitably epic for him.
Also, Live and let die
A nice melodic beginning I can hear him singing it.
When you were young
And your life was an open book".......
then spectacular music and deadly chorus
he could have sang that well
A touch of the vicious about it, he liked that now and again as we know.
And that bridge.
What does it matter to you etc
I think they would have Have heavy rocked up
Made it more blistering instead of the way it is
And then with a even more explosive crescendo and queen treatment
"Give the other fella hell!"

For all these , I am thinking of Queen doing them, music guitar harmonies.
Mull of Kyntyre I can imagine Brian Doing
Like another 39 ( Infact why doesn't Brian cover it in the studio- ? that would be nice, just him though singing it, with Roger of harmonies etc, he could learn to play the bagpipes! ) oh I can hear Brian singing it, it really suits his voice. Can your hear ?
And live Freddie could have sung it , like he sang 39, and men in skirts could have come on stage!
Roger could I think sing ashes to ashes.,,
"Do you remember a guy that's been..
In such an early song..."
Why not?
Long and winding road,
I can imagine Brian singing that also.
Have to be studio quality recordings though, I am not thinking live.I can hear him that whimsical refrain
The long and winding road"...
It sounds like Brian to me , suits his voice so much to my ear. And those strings building, it would be beautiful!
Yes so Brian and Roger could put those covers on the new album mull of Kintyre , long and winding road, and ashes to ashes , then they can release Freddie's stuff.
Seriously, Queen could do Beatles ballads like TLAWR Brian's voice is or was? Perfect for them, Hey Jude also. But def Mull of Kintyre for Brian's voice.
Bowie did pin ups years ago a album of covers of his musical Heroes , and the Queen have the Beatles as inspiration, so I don't see any problem with them doing some.
