While I would love to see/hear a full version of the song, I wouldn't mind if it were "just" a full-length instrumental with the whole band, a la Leroy Brown.
^ something tells me that's what it'll be.

Has anybody heard Fairy Feller live before on any other shows? Is this a one time thing? Never knew they did this song live.
Apparently it was played a few times.

I haven't posted here in forever, but damn if this press release in my inbox didn't get my heart racing! This is simply amazing! The March show was one of my oldest vinyl bootlegs I've had since I was a kid, the 'Sheetkeekers' version. And now finally a complete release of the whole thing, will wonders never cease! Plus the November show in full on video (ok, a comp of the 2 nights, but at least it appears, all the songs played!).
And about that 'Fairy Fellers' thing, has anyone here ever heard a live version of it? I'm really wondering how much of it they played, and if it's just a bit of it in a medley, like 'Black Queen.' Either way, this whole thing is just too cool! :-)
So, tonight, I'm off to the iHeart show, on the heels of this news, what a day!
I'm with The Wizard on this one!
Cheers!

The best release in 19 years! I can't believe it's happening. So excited!!
^ this review insists a Big Spender medley was played. So is it possible that one of the encores has been cut from the CD .. ?

As per Queen Online "The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke, (from Queen II) was inspired by a painting by Richard Dadd (1817-1886) which now hangs in the Tate Gallery, having been donated to the gallery by war poet Siegfried Sassoon. The song is by far the most significant song on the Rainbow project in terms of rarity. The March 31st show was the last time Queen performed it in concert and this is the only known live recording of the song. The track’s appearance on this package is likely to be the biggest surprise on the set."

Interesting revisiting all the previous threads now!

Well there's enough space on the disc for it (by my rough calculations!), maybe GT could clarify?

SD Bluray!!!!! Bah Humbug!!! ;-)
If it was shot on video tape, then the quality of the bluray will be far superior to the DVD.
DVD is limited to 480 horizontal lines and the mpeg2 codec is old.
By utilising the extra capacity of a bluray disc, they can make use of the full 625 line resolution of the original material, use a more advanced codec than mpeg or at the very least the same mpeg2 HD codec used for HD broadcasts AND the uadio could be uncompressed.
I'm all for SD Bluray and think everything in future should be released on it, including re-releases of previous stuff (Milton Keynes 82/Wembley 86 etc).
My ONLY concern is that they'll fuck-scale it, sorry, upscale it to 60i, which will result in 5 extra frames per second that need to be created, thus giving it a smeary/jerky look like NTSC looks on PAL systems.
Of course, if they can make it 23.97, that's fine by me as most modern PAL HD TV's should be able to cope with that much better than 60i.

GREAT NEWS.
Finally a decent release.
Seems switching record companies was a good thing to do.
Will buy the 4LP box.

ps the vinyl looks great, really great, but it's a luxury item these days. Great to look at but can't play or no point in playing unless you have a top quality turntable, amp and speakers.
Upgrade your playback system. Do it. You won't regret it.
Vinyl forever... :)

Thank you. I may go for the deluxe box if it's a reasonable price but as I have no interest in reproduction tickets etc it may be a case of buying the DVDs and CDs separately.
As for the vinyl, well wow! It's almost like going back in time. A "new" concert from the 1970s, on vinyl, with the originally planned artwork. Amazing. But I have too much vinyl sitting around already and no way to play it since my turntable packed it in about a year ago. Still, my ELO coloured vinyl LPs look nice :)

Think you've 2 x choices, buy pack 2+3 = all the audio / video, or pack 7 = everything, plus extras. Only thing on the deluxe that would be something I'd never use is "2) A DVD and SD Blu-Ray of the November show with four “bonus” tracks from March" I would prefer one or the other, both is a bit overkill.
.... Only joking, I dont care as this is something actually worth having for a change. :)
What, you can say QP are slow, understanable for the process of restoration of the video/audio, but you can't say their products aren't worth it.
Rock Montreal and Budapest are two really good releases, you can only complain about they should found the complete Budapest film before was lost. But the audio of both of them is super. And with the re-release of Wembley they put 1st night on the mix, that was good too.
And now Rainbow looks like the best release of all, i'm waiting to get it.

That cannot be denied, but my point was based on this concert, apart from the VHS in that boxset (which I dont have), has never been released in what I can only assume will be superb quality. That it was I meant by something worth having.
