the rest of the ones I played all pretty much sucked or were bad ports

Gave up games shortly after ps1 -2

Notable: Mario kart N64

Never played Sega Saturn, Nintendo GameCube etc

Good topic................I had an Intellivision, later NES, later SNES, later N64, later PS1, later (and still have) PS2.................

For Intellivision...........loved Burger Time, Bump n Jump, Tower Of Doom (if I got that name right)........

NES............Punch Out, Super Mario (of course!), Excitebike, Zelda..........probly some others I am forgetting......

SNES...........Final Fantasy II (awesome rpg!), Sim City (spent endless hrs playing that)

PS1...........Triple Play Baseball (first game I had that sounded like the commentary was a real game on tv.....lol)

PS2.............Madden and NCAA Football........aint played it in a while, but I still got a killer triple-option-offense team going in NCAA Dynasty mode! My teams lead the country in rushing and are last in passing......hehe.....

between 1983 and 1995 i was lucky enough to own:

(fantastic machine in its time)

i loved the old classics, on the atari 800xl - galaxian, scramble, caverns of mars, electraglide, pol position, starbowl football, star raiders I & II, last starfighter, rescue on fractalus, defender, asteroids, gyruss, xevious, zaxxon, zybex, fort apocalypse, draconus, battlezone, and loads more besides

also played loads of pub/chip shop arcade machines...as well as the classics, space invaders, pacman etc
but this was before most of you were born lol

I see you're fond of that machine too.

Rescue on Fractalus! Remember that alien that would occasionally spring up and bash the ship window? That thing made me jump out of my skin, first time it happened.

You've mentioned a few there that I had too -

Was ZX spectrum a UK system only?

About a year ago while looking up specs on one of my favorite b movies DEATH WISH 3 I noticed there was a VIDEO GAME released on that ... console?

(*btw I stopped at ps1, 2 .... weren't those from the 2000s?)

The ZX Spectrum was a computer. The most well known version was the earliest one (a tiny machine that could've been used as a door stop).
It says on Wiki "The Spectrum was among the first mainstream audience home computers in the UK, similar in significance to the Commodore 64 in the USA."

I'm not sure if it was available in the US or not. I've since read there were a number of computers that were pretty much clones of it made around the world, especially elsewhere in Europe.

A lot of people are still fond of the Spectrum. It might not look much now, but in its day it was a great little machine.


The PS1 came out in 1995, and the PS2, I think, was the year 2000....

After the machines I mentioned, I had a PS2, Gamecube, Xbox and Xbox 360. But my interest waned throughout the years. It's rare I play any of them these days. I've not even bothered with the latest ones - Xbox One and PS4.
Even though the audio and visuals are more impressive now, the newer machines don't have the magic about them that those old ones had.

Or is it due to the perceived dimensionality of 2-d versus 3-d?

Most games seem to be variants of first person perspective. I wonder what young people think about playing old console games.

i still have an atari 800xl - and just recently purchased an sio2sd device for it which works as a virtual disc drive...
not a bad bit of kit to save having hundreds of 5¼" floppies everywhere

also have an atari 520stfm (with 1mb upgrade - WOW!!!) -

and am currently rebuilding a small-form dell optiplex to create what will be an arcade emulator for hundreds of thousands of games across multiple formats....

this thread has dragged me into nostalgia mode

Craziness. Never got into all that modification stuff. .. wish I had. I miss some of my games that have since been lost or destroyed

^that 1MB upgrade works also with a AMIGA 500 (actually 512 kb + 512 kb ) . There was a slot for a extra memory card.

Edit : there is an option to run Commodore 80`s classics C64/Amiga games on your Windows PC. In german we call the software "Emulatoren"...most of the software is for free. Use Google for more information. I´ve tried it a couple of years ago and it worked pretty well. Quite sure that there are english websites with tutorials.
