Hi! I was going to reply yesterday, but totally forgot. I recommend you Adobe Audition, I use 3.0 version. Now, as free software... I can tell you Audacity (that's the one I started with). Is free, light and have a lot of tools, but it's not as complete or intuitive as Auditoin.

Cheers!

Thanks C_Matt! I've always wondered how it seems that many peoples remixes seem to mix the different instruments and vocals individually. How do you do that?

You're welvome! To do that you need the multitracks of the songs, or at least the 5.1 DTS from GVHI & GVHII to mix some songs from the beginning. You can find the multitrakcs from different websites like http://wewillrockyou.pl/download/queen-multitracks/ . And you can rip the 5.1 mono channels from your DVD's with a program called DVD Audio Extractor. Both can be found too around some places on Internet, but I recommend you to download them from Queen Hub.

Those are the different sources from which you can mix up a song with all the isolated instruments.

I hope it helps!

I've also used Adobe Audition 3, along side Sony Soundforge 8, as SS8 has a better cross fade function than later versions.

What I'd like to find, is a program that has a a 'find and replace' tool, so you could, say, easily replace a snare drum with a different sound, without doing each beat individually.

I'm glad it's not just me who wants it then! Lol!

Has anyone here used ProTools?

I know that it exists, I knew once a producer who told me about it (a program or a plugin), but I can't remember the name as I wasn't interested lol! I could check if I can contact him again to ask him the name again.

I've searched for plugins for Sony and Adobe, and found none. Maybe this was for ProTools? I believe that's what they use in most professional studios.

i may be barking up the wrong tree here...but wouldn't a mellotron or 808 VST be usable for replacing one sound with another?
...in a convoluted sort of way?
