Live at the Rainbow previews on iTunes

So I checked iTunes Canada today, and Live at the Rainbow is available for pre-order. Oddly enough, only the two-night version is available for purchase. No matter, I'm going to buy the CDs. However, the previews for each song are now available.

Naturally, the first one I checked was The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke. It's amazing, I can't believe that they didn't perform it more often. It's not an instrumental version, they sing it, and it's just great.

A few years ago, I posted a thread asking if "Master-Stroke" was ever performed live.

Here it is, if you'd like to check it out: http://www.queenzone.com/forums/1282093/the-fairy-fellers-master-stroke-live.aspx

After all those replies, the only "confirmed" rumour was that they played a quick instrumental version of it at a concert in California in 1975, because an audience member kept yelling for it throughout the concert. There is no recording of it.

Long-story-short, it's great, and even though iTunes lets you hear more than half of the track (1:30 of 2:52), I still can't wait to hear the full version, and the full concerts.

Take a listen.

EDIT: I uploaded it to YouTube for ease of listening and for those who do not have iTunes.

All the samples sound ace. The March show is just perfect, wonderful mix.

I'm glad that they left out most of the vocal overdubs. Sounds much better now! Or am I mistaken?

It's hard to tell. But considering this is the only live recording of the song, they wouldn't have much else to work with..

That may well be the case, but I guess we can't be certain of anything that they have or haven't got any more. Up to a few weeks ago, we didn't think they'd ever performed it live, let alone recorded it, so who knows what other surprises might be awaiting discovery? :)

Was it played only once?

Only once yes

How could anyone possibly prove that this is the only live performances when there are a ton of undocumented 1973-75 shows?

Until about a month ago almost nobody knew that they had played it even once.

We know it was played once. We don't know it was played "only" once.

FYI - there are other samples on iTunes too. Great King Rat, White Queen and SWAFIB from 3-31-74 all sound incredible. Flick Of The Wrist from November sounds killer too, and Father To Son from November is not the same performance as on the old Rainbow video !

Dear QP - know that people are taking notes and notice this stuff ! This release is monumental.

The video also looks crystal clear which makes the fact we only get four songs fir the march show on video even sadder
