Why weird? o.O Not only is highly possible but is a nice fact. I have my keyboard near to my bed, too.
John Reid likes to add colour to stories, it seems. There's plenty of piano pieces with hand-crossing, it's not a surprise if Freddie learnt some of those for one of his exams when he was being classically trained.
I thought the bed was specially made for him - with an intergrated piano. Also that it was reversed, so he could play "backwards" or something.
