Just as a matter of interest what is the current best practice for doing this? In the old days I would record FM radio to cassette tape but I do not live in a strong signal area and there was often a lot of hiss on the recordings, AM radio had less hiss but was mono. Nowadays we have digital stereo broadcasts which probably sound better but as far as I am aware these are highly compressed and would be regarded as lossy, I think the same would apply to recording the stream over the internet. We also have the option of downloading after the event via the BBC iPlayer but I would assume this would also be lossy and programs are not always available on iPlayer e.g. the 2009 Hammersmith ’75 TV broadcast.

If you are in a bad signal area then your digital recordings could also be affected.
NB: The 2009 Hammersmith broadcast was also transmitted on analogue TV in the UK, there is a sample nicam audio link below (from TTD)

Hi Barry,
Thanks for your quick reply, I was hoping that these days there would be something better than FM radio for lossless recording. As you point out the Freeview digital is a bit dodgy in my area but Sky digital is fine so I think that is probably my best option, lossy but good quality (no hiss).
