Just got my Rainbow deluxe set, easily the best release since 1995. We should give Brian and Roger props for releasing something for the hardcore fans. Obviously, they weren't thinking of the average Joe with this one. Just wanted too give them some love considering Queenzoners love to complain about everything.

Agreed, I think this was released with the old school in mind, but also I think as a reminder to newer fans where the roots of the music were at the time..

I agree with both of you. Have you heard how it came to releasing this stuff ? The story is so hilarious that it's hard to believe in it. Roger was telling Brian how good the songs are while they were driving to one of the arenas to prepare to show. Apparently he had some copy of this show in his car.....

Not true, Roger had the CD of rainbow release in his car, on the way to one of the Queen+AL shows, and commented to Brian how he'd forgotten how heavy they were !

I didn't realize how big the set was until I saw the big box. A beautiful Box Set I must say . I agree with Brian and Roger about how heavy they were.

From http://www.melodicrock.com/articles/podcasts-radio/2014/09/04/queen-inthestudio-roger-taylor-brian-may-discuss-live-rainbow-74
Queen drummer Roger Taylor explains to InTheStudio host Redbeard how during preparation for the band's most recent 2013/2014 tour the Rainbow concert tapes resurfaced. 'I had a copy of the Rainbow live... in my car. I was on my way to rehearsal on the first day and I said to Brian, 'These tracks are great!' I forgot that we were a really heavy band.'
Guitarist Brian May continues, 'There weren't any tricks to be had. It's all live and dangerous, as it is now with us. We knew what we were doing in those days. We were very clear and we were very well oiled in a sense; we knew each other very well.'

In fact it Brian or Roger said the setlist on the Q+AL 2014 tour was a bridge between the rainbow and the hits.

I agree and now we get to enjoy it again and again. It seemed to be trending toward this outcome since the 2011 Queen exhibition Storm Troopers and Stilettos in London where emphasis was placed on showcasing the bands early years and works. The exhibition included loads of performance clips and it was well attended & received. Perhaps exhibit goers served as a focus group to gauge audience reaction and overall current interest for this era of their material.

What a pleasure to see Queen in concert with no Bohemian Rhapsody or We Will Rock You.

Certainly a better story to tell the press and fans than "the record company asked us to release it". 40th anniversary is also a nice "event" for publicity purposes. Or you can believe Roger. Either way, I'm happy.
