I haven't heard it for a long time, so I can't comment on if he actually is quieter. It wouldn't be surprising though, with how much Freddie idolised Caballe, if he'd wanted her to be louder in the mix.

Are you talking about the original mix / remaster or the reworked album with Prague Philharmonic ? Cause Freddie's voice was/is low in the mix of the "new" version and that's the first thing which got my attention upon hearing the album.

Always thought that the original album was damn near perfection. Not a fan of the orchestral version ... it's probably like others said that Freddie and Mike had more control over the elements by using processed bits and synths rather than a chamber orchestra.
Who knows. But the newer mix loses a lot of the bombast

This sums it up perfectly, it`s insane how a cheesy 1980s Korg M1 can sound so powerfull! He had control about every little aspect of the sounds he wanted and created an insanely powerfull orchestra sound with only "rubbish" equipment, atleast nowadays it is.
Today`s best Synth is the Korg Kronos, it would be great to hear someone create Barcelona with that synth, i`m sure it would sound more like an orchestra than the real orchestra does, and it would be more bombastic for sure.

I thought the same about Freddie's vocals being drowned out but the original album was pure genius maybe Jim Beach should of gave his advice to Freddie and Mike Moran back in 87 with regards to the crap full orchestra release.

Do you think Freddie's voice is too low? Wait to hear the William Orbit remix!

What a wonderful keyboard the Korg Kronos is. The shame is the price. I can't buy it even in my dreams.

Korg Kronos is insanely priced, the Korg M3 however comes close in terms of sound (Well apart from the built in plug-ins) and that`s kinda cheap to buy nowadays.
