hello everyone, I was watching the One Vision video today, and we all know couple short scenes include John playing drums. Suddenly I thought did he really know how to play the drums or was he just fooling around with them? what do you think? does any of you know if he had the ability to play drums actually?

Actually I didn`t know it exactly but I guess he was able to play at least something like standard beat...4/4 beat.

It's said that he played drums on some tracks on Hot Space....(I have no idea which ones!)
I'll take you to the Seven Seas of Rhye

Who knows. There is footage of Freddie sitting behind Roger's kit during NOTW rehearsals and even he sitting with Brian's guitar. Roger was seen with Brian's guitar also. I know that for myself being in a band that there is the occasional moment where we tend to pick up another instrument from time to time. I assume John could play at least a basic beat but maybe not up to Roger's level.

No, he didn't. Only Roger played drums to a recording standard. What John, Fred and Brian did on several occasions, though, was programming drums using computers, synths, sequencers, MIDI or loops. Most of the percussion on Queen records had been recorded by Roger, but there are also several cases where it's actually a computer or sequencer.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

Hey, you know what they say right? Roger wasn't the best drummer in the world - he wasn't even the best drummer in Queen.

Or, wait, was that about Ringo and The Who?

Pour me another one, Lloyd.

I believe John plays the drums as a hobby. I read it somewhere.
John: "It's the one thing I wish I could do - sing."
