He still claims there is something that is called 'god', but he is getting there....
The deists do/did too, and they're the closest thing to a religion being correct. They insist there was some kind of force (which we can label as god, the flying spaghetti monster, or physics) that initiated creation, and then this force stopped intervening with life (in which case physics wouldn't apply).
