What are Brian's best "high-pitched descents" from guitar solos?

I mean the really high pitched ones that start to descend down like a staircase in his solos. Live at Wembley has a good one, the best one on the official releases is Live Killers, which is quite an amazing one.

They used to really give me a chill down my spine when I first discovered Queen's live stuff. Are there any better examples? Hopefully people know what I mean.

I don't, but when you have heard one Brian May guitar solo you have heard them all.

Ah... The BLAG/Brighton Rock solo.

Bleah.

;)

This one's one for the collectors of live music. Off hand I'd say the one where he incorporates Bijou.

Some good ones from the ANOTHER WORLD tour. Bits of China Belle Chinese Torture and Gimme the Prize.

(Take note. I like the ones that have tunes in em)

That's a bit too harsh!
When you've heard one Brian May solo you have heard 95% of every single one of his solos out there... Now that's more like it. :)

It's that 5% which makes us obsessing fans keep returning over and over again.

Long live the 'flick of the wrist' solo. Still the best after 40 years.

That's a bit harsh! There is a certain phrasing that pops up from time to time but Brian's solos tend to be melody driven (especially in Freddie tracks) which is quite exceptional in the field of rock guitar

He rarely slips into cliched

As artist in his field, he is up there with the best of them, the guitar is essentially his voice and just there's not a lot you can do about vocal tone, guitarists are no different

Absolute horse shit.

Compare his solos from Earls Court 77 and Milton Keynes 82. They are 100% different, other than the fact that he's using the same delay technique. Musically they could not be more different.

I know exactly which part you mean.

Live Killers and Wembley are the two official releases that come to mind, but I can't think of any other shows off hand. He did some nice variations of it in 1984 for sure.

Actually, in Manchester 75 he does a similar thing that's a combination of ascending and descending lines. Just gorgeous in few spots. He does it for about a minute:

That's really the joy of collecting the hundreds of live shows - there are great moments all over the place. You just have to find them.

His guitar solo is different, but he is doing the Brian May thing... I love the guy but the delay thing is on Queen at the Beeb ffs... shred the fuck out of your guitar!!!!

Any Brian cynics out there, just play 'mustapha' and 'flick of the wrist' in succession and isolate, audibly, Brian's guitar bits, you'll realise your'e in the presence of genius.

But that's why a lot of people go to see Brian May. It's his trademark, just like Ian Paice doing the one-handed drum roll, Steve Howe doing fingerstyle acoustic, Pete Townshend smashing a Les Paul, or Keith Richards actually being alive. This is what people pay to see.

People didn't go to see Zeppelin and say, "Oh god, Page is doing the stupid violin bow thing again" during Dazed and Confused. They were seeing the centrepiece of the show.

While Brian's calling card may not be as iconic as Page's, it's the thing he has done for ages and always will do because it's HIS.

Shred solos are boring. Brian tried to make it into something musical. And he obviously is doing something right, because of all the guitarists in this world it's he who was chosen to do a guitar showcase at the closing ceremony of the Olympics.

Hmmm, but I think the short list for that slot was probably famous British guitarists who had played on Bohemian Rhapsody.
