An outtake from 1984 for sure.

Yeah, I figured as much. I'm struggling to identify where it appears in the song though.

Question: In 1985, or 2014?

I have not heard the new (newer/newest?) remix since the first offering months ago.

my guess is 2014...
that guitar sound has nothing to do with the 1984 one

So what exactly did they work on with Chris Thomas recently? His name isn't mentioned at all in these credits. Perhaps it's the unreleased mix of TMBMTLTT.....

Simple: Roger said that the instrumental basis was from the 1981 HS session takes

I think it's a combination of the two

It's got to be the clean, rhythmic, single-noted funky part that appears in the left channel very briefly at 1:56 on the new version, but is used more in the original version.

I'm not sure why. It's not hard to hear, but I suppose it's easy to miss if you're not looking out for it. But if you go to 01:53 in the new version, and listen to the left speaker, in a couple of seconds you'll hear the guitar enter for a few bars and then disappear.
