I've found the 'eYe' part of the intro in the stems, behind the first chorus. This seems to indicate to me that it's not an 'extra' part at all, but just something lifted from the multitracks for the 'eYe' version. I've done a mix replacing the mono 'eYe' part with the stereo section from the stems, making it all stereo, but I'm not sure that there was ever a genuine longer intro version to recreate.

That said, the instrumental demo which BETA215 referred to above, does contain the longer intro, so I don't know whether they used it twice, or whether there's a subtle difference I'm not hearing between the intro part, and the part under the first chorus. Anyway, here you go, and this time it's FLAC.

Once again, this is not all my work, but an agreed collaboration with cmi, using the main part of his mix, and his extended ending.

For some reason it's not letting me upload the FLAC, so you'll have to make do with the MP3 for now...

- Lord Fickle: Again, the demo also has another extra part of the intro that The Eye lacks. It essentially makes the part with all the drums and guitars longer.

Edit: And that specific extra part I am referring to was even performed live at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bLGgA17a38 .

Edit #2: Imho, structure-wise, the album version is like:
C V2 C V1 V1 B C C V2 V2 B C C S S C C C X F F B C C X E

Let me explain:
C - Chorus with guitar only
V2 - Drums from verse 2
C - Chorus with guitar and drums, with extra guitar
V1 - Verse 1
V1 - Verse 1
B - Bridge
C - Chorus
C - Chorus + synth
V2 - Verse 2
V2 - Verse 2
B - Bridge
C - Chorus
C - Chorus + synth
S - Slow section
S - Slow section
C - Chorus with guitar and drums, with extra vocals
C - Chorus with guitar and drums, with extra vocals
X - Percussion and guitar "pulses", with extra guitar
F - Fast section with chorus-like guitars and fast drums
F - Fast section with chorus-like guitars and fast drums, with extra lead instruments
B - Bridge
C - Chorus with only drums and vocals
C - Chorus
C - Chorus without vocals and with extra guitar
X - Percussion and guitar "pulses", with extra vocal
E - Ending guitar

The single intro is simply:
C - Chorus with only vocals (A Cappella)
C - Chorus with guitar and drums, with extra guitar

Now, in both these versions, the intro and the end stick out with their non-paired chorus sections. The Hollywood records makes things worse by reducing the first chorus with vocals too from a pair to just one.

Now this is The Eye intro:
C - Chorus with guitar only
C - Chorus with guitar only and added synth
V2 - Drums from verse 2
C - Chorus with guitar and drums, with extra guitar

Notice how the first "chorus" part becomes more balanced and consistent with the rest of the song here. But the second one still remains sticking out.

This is the demo intro:
C - Chorus with guitar only
C - Chorus with guitar only and added synth
V2 - Drums from verse 2
C - Chorus with guitar and drums
C - Chorus with guitar and drums

Both parts get the right balance here and become consistent with the rest of the song.

This is the intro as it was performed at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert:
C - Chorus with only vocals (A Cappella)
C - Chorus with vocals and beating non-drum percussion
C - Chorus with guitar and drums
C - Chorus with guitar and drums, with extra guitar

We see the second half following what we already hear in the demo, with even even the drum roll between the two guitar-and-drums sections performed just like it was in the demo.
But we also see the A Cappella part (from the Single version) balancing out and becoming consistent.

Now, the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert performance also balances the end by repeating the chorus with only drums and vocals, as well as the one with guitars and drums, and then repeating both sections with guitars and drums again.

Now, IMHO, the full version is supposed to be:
C C V2 C C V1 V1 B C C V2 V2 B C C S S C C C X F F B C C C C X E
Or, at the extreme, I think more likely:
C C V2 C C V1 V1 B C C V2 V2 B C C S S C C C X F F B C C C C C C X E

Essentially, with the intro exactly as in the demo version but obviously finished (with the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert serving as a clue), and the ending with two sections of the chorus with only drums and vocals and two sections of the chorus with full instrumentation.

This is what I think the structure for the full version ending is supposed to be:
C - Chorus with only drums and vocals
C - Chorus with only drums and vocals (possibly with added bass?)
C - Chorus
C - Chorus (possibly with added synth?)
C - Chorus without vocals
C - Chorus without vocals and with extra guitar
X - Percussion and guitar "pulses", with extra vocal
E - Ending guitar

The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert provides clues for that too, however everyone there decided to sing over the last two chorus sections instead of keeping them instrumental as they were supposed to be.

And this is what I think the full version intro is supposed to be like:
C - Chorus with guitar only
C - Chorus with guitar only and added synth
V2 - Drums from verse 2
C - Chorus with guitar and drums
C - Chorus with guitar and drums, with extra guitar

As well as a single-like variant:
C - Chorus with only vocals (A Cappella)
C - Chorus with vocals and beating non-drum percussion
C - Chorus with guitar and drums
C - Chorus with guitar and drums, with extra guitar

Or, a variant combining both:
C - Chorus with only vocals (A Cappella)
C - Chorus with vocals and beating non-drum percussion
C - Chorus with guitar only*
C - Chorus with guitar only and added synth*
V2 - Drums from verse 2
C - Chorus with guitar and drums
C - Chorus with guitar and drums, with extra guitar

* Possibly with added beating non-drum percussion to blend better with the first two sections.

I have to admit I didn't listen to it fully, but unfortunately it's not the best quality and it would take a lot of work to make it sound comparable to the released version, which it would need to be to make a good mix from.

I will listen to it again though, out of curiosity, as it may still be possible to recreate the extra parts from the stems.

- Lord Fickle: Since you replied before I finished editing my post again, please read it, as I provided my attempt at a structural analysis of the various versions of the song and my opinion, based on what we have available, on how the supposed full version would be structured.

And yes, please do have a better listen to the demo. :p

Thanks for your very detailed analysis!

I can't promise to do any more with this, as I haven't really got the time (maybe cmi wants to have another try?), but I'll give the demo a listen when I get a moment.

Battler:
Great analysis post! I need to carefully analyse stems for possible re-creation of extra intro parts.
BTW, instrumental demo is different take so it's not correct to use it as part of extended version, specially when the quality is so poor in comparison with officially released material.

Lord Fickle:
Actually I can't hear any difference in the intro between to mp3 versions you've posted.
Also your re-created intro is different to the original 'the eYe' intro. Original edited part doesn't include any percussion, also keyboards are different and not so prominent.

Yes, mine was done from the partly pre-mixed stems, so that maybe where the bit of percussion came in. Also, bear in mind the eYe version was mono, so the stereo version will sound different. As I said, I don't have a great deal of time at the moment, but will have another look at it over the weekend.

The second version I uploaded should have the little bit of guitar in the 'eYe' part, which was missing from my first mix - unless I've uploaded the same one twice by mistake.

It seems to me that the take is the same, bar for minor drum differences in the end of the intro which could be because of the subsequent cutting of the extra parts. However, it's unfinished, hence no vocals and the extra lead guitars are missing too. So basically there's only back guitars, drums, and bass (or maybe not even bass?).

Edit: The eYe version sounds like a finished version of same, but the intro, as I said before, is slightly shorter (one part with guitars and drums cut one, same as in the album version).
However, as the demo cuts out immediately before the fast section should start, we don't know how the missing second half would have been structured like. Maybe the eYe version differs further from the unfinished version in that part.

Just to clarify, there are two version of IWIA on The eYe. One is 4:54 and contains the extended intro, and one is 4:43, which is near enough the same as the album version, the extra couple of seconds being a slightly extended fade at the end.

The versions posted here are recreations of the longer eYe version, and that second section of the intro is the only part which is extended.

In the demo version, there is a longer section before the first verse, where the first guitar break is between the intro and the first verse on the finished version. It's the backing part which runs behind the choruses, and on the demo, it runs twice, instead of once. However, it would be a hell of a job to try to recreate that from the stems, if possible at all, as all of those sections have twiddly bits of guitar over them, and there isn't just a 'clean' riff available of that guitar part in the stems. It could possibly be made up out of bits and repeated bits, but I don't think it would sound all that great.

My two uploads are definitely different - but only in that 'eYe' part of the intro. :)

Are you referring to the little 'chink chink chink' in the background with regards percussion? If so, then it's in the first section of the intro, and would sound slightly odd if it suddenly stopped for the second part, so I think it's better left in.

As I said before, perhaps the keyboard prominence in the eYe version is a result of it being mono?

Yes, that's what I've been referring to all this time. :p Anyway, I just listened closely to the eYe instrumental version, to that specific part, and it seems like between the break and verse, the synth abruptly ends, then there's some abrupt guitar for a split-second, then the verse, as if something was cut.

Edit: And I just notice that the part with chorus that normally only has drums and vocals, also seems to end a bit abruptly.
