In fact, if you listen on the album version it's still there - but barely.
The multiple Brian voices for 'This night and ever more' also sound very rich in this, and his 'ooh' vocal for the start of the instrumental break is more audible than on Hot Space.
That could just be a matter of EQing, though. It's from an old tape that's many gens from the master.

Yeah, I meant to say more present than it is on the album version. I was never sure if it was a vocal or a synth for quite a long time.
