Cool
NEW! QUEEN: Sun City 10/19/1984
This is a thing I did yesterday for myself, but maybe somebody else will find it interesting too...

Short version of what I've done
- speed correction
- hiss reduction
- restoring of distorted parts
- click removal
- removing of repeating segments

Queen
Super Bowl, Sun City, Bophuthatswana, South Africa
October 19, 1984

This wonderful quality recording has been shared by Anthony (City-in-the-sun) on Queenzone.com in 2 mp3 files, the first one (side A) in 2009 and the second one
(side B) in 2015 - a huge thanks for this!

However these mp3 files had several problems - the first part played too slow, had a notable amount of background hiss. The second part played too fast, also has a notable amount of background hiss, and has several digital errors - some small gaps (skips) and also some repeating segments, mainly in Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bohemian Rhapsody and most notably Radio Ga Ga (I'm pretty sure everybody noticed "through teeteeteeteenage").

The first part already speed--corrected by Ale Solan and shared in 2009. According to his notes, he took the original mp3 file, corrected the speed in GoldWave, split the tracks and encoded them to FLAC level 8 using Trader's Little Helper. I listened to his version and I liked its speed, but he didn't touch the hiss. I hate hiss. So I took his flac files, made a one huge wav file of them, removed some of the hiss
(not all - I am always trying to not deform the sound too much) in Cool Edit Pro and created new wav files from it. The new wav files were encoded in Trader's Little
Helper to FLAC level 8.

The second side/file was a bigger challange. I had to first correct the speed, then I removed a part of the hiss, everything again in Cool Edit Pro. Last songs are
distorted because the tape was probably transferred too loud, thankfully CEP has a nice feature called "restored clipped audio", I really like the results. Then the whole file was split into several files (one file for each song) and in
every single track I removed all pops and clicks I was able to find. In various songs, mainly in Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bohemian Rhapsody and Radio Ga Ga I removed all repeated segments. The final wav files were loaded into Trader's Little Helper and encoded to FLAC level 8.

I have added a little bonus an interview from Irish radio from 1986 about Sun City, I have again reduced the hiss and corrected the speed, this interview is added as a bonus to disc 2.

I'm speechless.

No words. (Even if I have a little word for him...)
From his last action you can understand how sincere was his "apology".

Someone clearly has mental problems. I do not pity him for that though.

I think he just gets his kicks from acting like a Bell-end..

I skimmed that message. He simply copy/pasted Pittrek's notes.

The first sentence looks like he's taking credit for the work - but it's simply a copy/paste.
I always knew I was a star And now, the rest of the world seems to agree with me-Freddie Mercury

Conveniently forgetting to credit Pittrek before cutting and pasting..

Yeah - good thing you got that info out there!
I always knew I was a star And now, the rest of the world seems to agree with me-Freddie Mercury

He seems to be trying to establish himself as Guitar101's resident Queen Guru..

He's simply pathetic.

In fact, I'm feeling like I shouldn't have said anything now, as I feel he relishes the attention..

That been said, He's also trying to pass this off as lossless.. He deleted the line where Pittrek says it's sourced from mp3.. I've pointed that out on Guitars101 too..
· Member since
No, moonie you were right to let us know that he was stealing pittrek's credit.
But other than that, we shouldn't talk to him anymore,
even if only to address a death threat.

Yeah, Those death threats and the like were way over the top.. Like you say, best just to ignore the guy.. So I'll shut up now..
