I think the "pane" note is the most funky sounding. "Through" sounds alright to me, albeit a bit weak (he had to switch registers).

It's the word 'through' that's really off.
He sings a B4 (like the record - except he uses his falsetto).

Tonality, it's not the most pleasant-sounding falsetto Freddie's done, but he is singing accurate pitches on that bridge part (B4 - E5, C#5).

Who would've thought he'd pull phrases off like that?
I guess my ears need unwaxing but to me that note sounds off.

I don't think it's a matter of un-waxing or anything. The tone doesn't sound the best on the phrase (which is why I think people said it sounded "off" or "funny"), but I give him credit for trying out something that he never has tried before or after!

I agree, it sounds great and is so unexpected. I seem to remember he did something similar on the Japan 1985 DVD. I think he falsettoed the word 'vain'. That didn't sound good to me. In tune but not a good choice for me.

Thanks!

Loved hearing Roger's harmony so clearly on the second chorus, loved Brian ripping into both solos.....and the electronic drums (whilst I still hate them) are better balanced in that than anything else I've heard from that era!

For me the best Hammer To Fall would have been Rehearsal of Live Aid, had it been a complete recording. The guitar adlib kicked ass:

But this Sun City's HTF is a real challenge. Live Aid comes after.

The Stuttgart version from 1984 is also really really good. I listen to that one all the time.

That was always my favorite 1984 version - but Sun City is always getting in the way!

Brilliant version of "Hammer to fall".
Love the way Brian plays randomly with those guitar licks and Freddies falsetto is great, to which Queen are well known for.
Nice to hear Queen with the original band line up.
Great memories and we were well entertained back then!
