Inspired by another thread, what do you think would be a better tracklist for "The Works"? Mine would be

Side A

1. Machines (Back To Humans) - I really think this would work as an album opener, both lyrically and musically, especially since this would be the first song you hear after Hot Space, but I'd prefer a shorter version
2. Man on Fire - probably as a Freddie/Roger duet
3. I Go Crazy - I really like the idea of this song following MOF
4. I Want To Break Free - but in a different treatment. I never liked the 80's "synthpop " sound, the live versions are so much better
5. Love Kills - a rock version, something like the remix on Freddie's solo box
6. A Hard Life - I wouldn't change anything on this one

Side B
1. Let Me In Your Heart Again - probably the same version released last year
2. Hammer To Fall - the Headbanger's remix
3. There Must Be More To Life Than This - maybe a Freddie/MJ duet
4. Radio Ga Ga - a re-worked version similar to the live versions
5. Is This The World We Created? - just a simple acoustic song to end the album

Here's how I have mine:

Side 1:
Machines (Or 'Back To Humans')
Hammer To Fall
It's A Hard Life
Let Me In Your Heart Again
Radio Ga Ga

Side 2:
I Want To Break Free
Keep Passing The Open Windows
Man On Fire
I Go Crazy
Love Kills

I would keep all songs as-is, except Break Free would be the single remix. Ideally, Man On Fire would have Roger on vocals, but it would more likely have Freddie on vocals. (Oh, and There Must Be More to Life Than This and Man Made Paradise would appear on my reworked Hot Space.)

It's a Hard Life
Machines

That's it: a single, and then a single again two years later (double A: 'Who Wants to Live Forever' and 'One Vision') and no album until 'The Miracle.'
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

Boy, those are some sweeping erasures. Would you have had them still perform tracks like Magic and Hammer to Fall live?

Side A: I am better than Queen

Side B: This album would be so much better if you listened to my half baked idea for the tracklist more than 30 years after it was released.

Yes,
put the live version in, by all means. For example the Sun City one.
But in the single version, do keep the video :D

I think you can not put both Hammer to Fall and Let Me In Your Heart Again on one Album, because I think Let Me... sounds very much like a ballad Version of Hammer in many places ( especially the guitarsolo parts).

At least that was my first thought, when I was hearing the song for the first time. And as I don't think it is that good, I would drop it in favor of Hammer To Fall.

Also I do like I Go Crazy very much, but I think it doesn't really fit on that album, it sounds more like Jazz or News Of The World to me.

So my Track list would be:

Side One:

Machines (or ‘Back to Humans’)
It’s a Hard Life
Tear It Up
I Want to Break Free (Album Version, I just Love that Intro)
Keep Passing the Open Windows
Let Me Live

Side Two

Hammer to Fall
Love Kills (like they played it in the US last Year)
Man on the Prowl
Radio Ga Ga
Is This the World We Created...?
Keep Yourself Alive

HTF yes; it's a very good song, but the recording's quite awful in some ways. AKOM no... there are at least 40 songs they could've played instead, which are way better.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

I believe I started this tracklist thing.. now I'm cringing at everyone's inclusion of Machines on this album. If you could do it all over again... why would you ever include a song with the word "parahumanoidarianised"?

Jim Morrison & Leonard Cohen have both tried it, and failed. Then why oh why did Brian May think it could worked?

Ah well, that's just my take on it.

Machines is an awesome song. I love playing it on my gramophone.
