Brian May featured interviewee in KANSAS documentary

Been a recent fan of the band KANSAS after a pal of mine loaned me the album MASQUE about two years ago. (I'd been in the camp that avoided them due to theconstant overplay of their hit "Carry on my wayward son)

Anyways the documentary is called KANSAS: MIRACLES OUT OF NOWHERE

There were snippets of Brian's admiration for the band from their early tours with Queen and Mott.

He talked about their technical skill and how their music was almost orchestral, also how he and Freddie would sometimes watch them from the wings.

I caught it on Palladia yesterday and noticed there was no mention of the doc on Qz.

While certainly not THOROUGH I'm sure it's a good docfor the casual fan.


Funniest part being how Steven Tyler went batshit frequently on their tours together to the point of rages and attempts to literally PULL THE PLUG on their sets (what a bitch)

Funnily enough, their sound man had rigged up "dummy plugs" which were decoys for their real diverted power source.

Yup, watched that last weekend. Good stuff. Not a huge fan of Kansas, but they certainly had some great songs.

After read above about Steven Tyler having a hissy fit due to his over inflated ego, it made me think of the argument between him & Freddie during that first 1974 tour in Harrisburg, PA. One thing I never found out was, who won the battle? Which band, Queen or Aerosmith, got to go on just before Mott?

I'm not (yet) a fan of Kansas, but their music is rich.

Poor Steven Tyler. Did they say why he was pissed with Queen during the tour? Talent envy?

Tyler & Freddie were both arguing who's band should be the final support act to go on before Mott. Tyler felt they should follow Queen because this was a US tour & they were a US band. I can't remember Freddie's reason for why Queen should follow Aerosmith. I think its because Mott was an English group & so were Queen. I reserve the right to be wrong about that.

But in all seriousness, we actually don't know who went first. That part of the story got lost in the annuls of history, as Brian May playing piss drunk was far more interesting a tale to tell.

Arrghh. I failed to specify that that bit with Steven Tyler related to the guys in KANSAS.

A case of my rambling. Supposedly one of the guys in the band (I think the bassist) roughed Steven Tyler up a bit about it and it never happened again

That's funny that Tyler would say the show was cancelled altogether. Obviously, that's not the case. I'd love for someone to call BS on him & see what he says now. I wouldn't be surprised if he would just ignored the question all together. Is the any evidence that he and Freddie/Queen got along through the years?

There's a photo of Steven and Roger, but that doesn't prove anything. I've taken selfies with loads of people I don't necessarily like.

Brian said he admired them but, then again, Brian says that about everyone (Britney, Boyzone, Avril Lavigne). So either he admires everybody, or he's just being polite a lot and we'll never know whom he actually rates highly. When everybody's special, nobody is.
