Hi all - This was previously shared in shortened form by The Real Wizard (and it's also on YouTube). Here is the full interview (minus the songs played between the talking).

The interview takes place in NYC, January 21st, 1976 but was broadcast on WBCN FM, Boston. (I'm not sure of the actual broadcast date). It's six days before the start of their US tour and over two weeks before they'd actually play a gig in NYC.

The origin of the tape comes from a guy named Steve (I forget his last name) that I met on the night of March 25th 1991, when I saw Brian play with Les Paul at Fat Tuesday's in NYC. After the gig we took some photos and one was of Steve and his friends and Brian. We exchanged information so that I could mail the photo to him.

A little while later he contacted me and told me he'd found a recording from the WBCN, Boston radio archives, where he used to work, and sent along the tape I've uploaded here.

The quality is a bit 'hot' at points as iMac's no longer have built in mic inputs and this was the best sound I was able to achieve using a plug-in adapter (simple one made by NRG tech).

I've kept it in .aiff format, even if the quality might not really warrant it...you can do with it as you please.

You can find the two parts of the interview here:

Awesome - looking forward to hearing the second half now !

The tape was transferred pretty hot. It's about 3x as loud as it should be, so it distorts quite a bit and some of their words get lost. The original transfer of the first half sounds so much better. Any chance of a re-transfer at a lower volume?

Either way, thanks man !

For now, this is, unfortunately, the best I can provide. The first time I did the transfer it was through the direct mic input, but new IMac's no longer have that. I haven't been able to get any better sound using the mic adapter I have. The adjustment levels go from silent to what you've got here..any higher and it was really bad. I'm not sure why it's not allowing more finesse in the level settings, as others (judging by comments on the Amazon page where I bought the adapter) seem to be having fine results and I haven't read about anyone having issues with the peaks being too high. I'll definitely be looking into getting a better sound input device, though, as I've got so much stuff I'd like to transfer (Queen and otherwise).

Thank you Kamenliter ^^

The story of you and your friend Steve is interesting.
Wish all radio archivers could be as nice as him.

Yeah, that was a very nice and unexpected gesture from him. Just imagine how many of these types of tapes might be out there.
