Hi,
I never really listened to Deep Purple, except Smoke on the Water, but someone on QZ wrote that "April" was really good, and I agree. Yesterday a friend of mine put on "Child in Time" and I liked it.
Do you have any suggestions/tips for more songs by this band? Thanks!

Highway Star, Space Truckin', Sometimes I Feel Like Screamin', those are my personal favourites. And of course you simply MUST at least once listen to Concerto for Group and Orchestra, preferably the 1999 version. But they actually have DECADES of great songs, so it's really hard to choose just a few

go for these albums as a starting point - you really won't be disappointed
[b][i]Machine Head [/i][/b]- without exception; band at the top of their game. [b][i]Burn[/i][/b] - a nice change of direction, the co-vocals of Coverdale/Hiughes work well [b][i]In Rock[/i][/b] - is career forming [b][i]Perfect Strangers[/i][/b] is not a bad album with some excellent tracks - including a very sleazy song about putting your pole in the wrong hole [b][i]Fireball[/i][/b] and [b][i]WDWTWA[/i][/b] - again some high spots as for the other albums... [b][i]The Battle Rages On[/i][/b] - [i]Anya[/i], and [i]A Twist In The Tail[/i] are worth a listen [b][i]Slaves and Masters[/i][/b] - [i]Breakfast In Bed[/i] and [i]The Cut Runs Deep[/i] are ok [b][i]House of The Blue Light[/i][/b] - again some decent stuff; [i]Spanish Archer[/i], [i]Call of the Wild[/i] and [i]Mitzi Dupree[/i]
NOTHING really worth it after the departure of Blackmore & Lord and the [b]Deep Purple[/b] on the album covers should actually carry an "[b]*[/b]" ([b]Deep Purple*[/b]) [b][i]Now What[/i][/b] - a turd of huge proportions - steer clear, unless autotuned vocals are your bag. [b][i]Bananas[/i][/b] - well it's almost as bad as Now What
and from just prior to the first break-up...[b][i]Come Taste The Band[/i][/b] well...DON'T
[b]*[/b] product does not not bear scrutiny against any of this band's worthwhile body of work

Speaking of Blackmore....I haven't really heard much of their other stuff, but the first Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow album is just awesome...

well as we've diverted a little:- yes, the first album [b][i]Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow[/i][/b] - is a nice debut...but the next three albums [b][i]Rising[/i][/b], [b][i]LLRnR[/i][/b] and [i][b]Down To Earth[/b][/i] amongst the best of the [i]man in black[/i]'s career...
as regards the other stuff Whitesnake made some good records prior to their Donington appearance - but it's a shame that the great Jon Lord was little more than a session musician.
Gillan had a couple of decent stabs - mainly when Torme was still on board - but most of his stuff sounds like a pud band
Rainbow's second vocalist Graham Bonnet release a nice solo album [b][i]Line Up[/i][/b] - with some respected names appearing on the album.
