Jurassic World

So last weekend (on the 21st of June) I went to the Vue in Carmarthen to watch that film, and I really liked it. I can understand why it gets so much sh*t on the internet but I disagree with those points. And no, I'm not a youngster who couldn't appreciate the original trilogy: as a matter of fact, I did watch all three of them in the cinema when they came out, and I really liked the first two (the third one was awful).

What are your views on it?

Personally, I loved the way it was meta, and the way they realistically depicted an autistic person. There's no such thing as an 'average' or 'regular' individual on the spectrum, but the truth is autistic people in real life are more likely to resemble that kid than they are to resemble Sheldon Cooper or Abed Nadir.

As for the plot, some have criticised the alleged lack of character development and the amalgamation of different storylines instead of having just picked one. Again, I can see their points, but I disagree: you don't need a character to be whining and monologuing for an hour and a half to have some development; the older brother ditching the younger 'odd' one and then growing close to him when they're in danger, clichéd as it is, makes far more sense and is far more realistic than the usual Hollywood-esque way to approach those narratives.

The thing is, the film's not insulting people's intelligence, and I love that. They know their target audience. They know we knew the main plotline so they took it from there, and the homages to the first film as well as the take-that's to the third were spot on. It kicked off right where I expected, and I really liked the special effects. Having said that, I do agree it doesn't really gain much in 3D, but that's not the end of the world.

Now, as for the twist in the climax, it'll be spoiled to death for years to come but I'm so glad I hadn't read, seen or heard anything by the time I went to the theatre, as it had that great balance between surprising, nostalgic, logical(-ish) and cleverly foreshadowed.

Loads of fans of the original are moaning, whining or sobbing, some with alleged good reasons, and fair play. I'm a fan of the original and I liked this one as well. Let's wait for October when the DVD comes out, maybe once I re-watch it I'll hate it as well, or maybe not, but as for now, I'm glad I saw it and I think it was worth waiting fourteen years, especially considering how horrendous the third one had been.

I was entertained and liked it a lot. Loved the ending fight. Bryce Dallas Howard looked so pretty :)

I haven't seen it, just the trailer, and I hated how fake the dinosaurs looked.

^ I also checked the trailer and for some reason they looked worse to me than in the cinema. Or maybe I just didn't notice it when watching but I doubt that. All in all CGI looked okay to me. Also, I noticed some subtle fine grain on the cinema screen and thought to myself that I like it. 1080p trailer looked much "cleaner".

I remeber reading the dinosaurs used in the trailer were an early version of the finished ones. So probably the dinosaurs of the movie will look better than the dinosaurs of the trailer.

Two things really ruined this film for me:

First of all the 3D picture was just terrible, everything which was not in the focus was totally blurred and all fast movement was was juggling, it was so annoying.
Secondly, I was not scared. The whole idea of the Jurrassic Park movies was to make my hair stand up from fear of these creatures. I am really easily scared in movies and if a movie does not scare me, it is just bad. Why would I watch a Dinosaur movie if there is no suspense at all. It's like watching a comedy that does not make me laugh. With all the ridiculous story lines in movies 2 and 3 they still were supenseful and scary. When there was a raptor in the dark jungle your life was at stake and it was not a circus act.
