Rega turntables aren't sold on a mass production basis. You go to the hi-fi store, they usually have a demo... Based on demand, these stores will buy a few extra to make a quick sale... however generally they'll only receive them on order. You just put a deposit or whatnot and get it within 2-4 weeks. They aren't cheap turntables, etc. Each one is made by hand at their plant.
Like i mentioned earlier, the RP1 is their bottom of the line product... it sells for 450USD. The Queen table is actually the bottom of the line turntable with adequate upgrades. But Rega's bottom is still a very well made and great sounding product.
My dad got me an RP1 for Christmas when I was around 13 or 14 back in the late 80s. They're good turntables. My brother, to this day still has his RP2.
The RP1 roughly goes for around £230.
You'll see the different models and prices here (this is my local hi fi dealer)...

I know a lot about this stuff..
you actually had the planar 1...and your brother the planar 2.
the rp1 is the new generation combination of the planar 1 + planar 2,
The Queen Rega is actually a modified (upgraded) rp1. The big difference is that it has a quieter motor.. as such you can expect a 300GBP selling price or possibly a tad bit more.
What I owned was a Planar 1, made by Rega, hence I wrote 'RP1' (Rega Planar 1). What my brother got back in the late 80s was a Planar 2, made by Rega, hence I wrote 'RP2' (Rega Planar 2). Just like when someone writes (for example) SHA for Sheer Heart Attack, or ADATR for A Day At The Races.
I've not really followed that closely as I've got Linn gear these days.
yea. rega's not that creative with the names... first gen was planar 1,2,3... then p1, p3, p5, etc. now it's rp1, rp3, rp6, rp8, rp10.
i had an RP1, sold it - got a planar 3, sold that - now i'm with an RP6. Eventually, I'll follow your lead and dish out for an LP12 (Linn) (which second hand goes for as about as much as a brand spanking new RP6)
In order to find out if the forthcoming vinyl albums will be any good, I'll buy one - just one - and play it at the same time as the 2011 remaster CDs, switching between the two. I'm not sure which album to try really. If the first one I do try is any good, then I'll probably get more.
I guess being sceptical of how they're going to turn out is a good reason for buying one first, as opposed to the box set. The other reason is that I don't like the coloured vinyl at all. At least when you buy them individually you get standard vinyl.
