Original CD releases or 2011 remastered CD releases? Which are better?

I hear most people hating on the 2011 remasters and I do own them and I will admit they are a bit loud at times but how are they compared to the original cd releases? I have never bought any of the originals before. And also if anyone know could someone give me a list of all the original studio CDs?

Trust me, when your ears reach a certain age, i.e. 57 years, it makes no friggin difference.

Fuck me, you're nearly as old as Brian May!

Original, such as GH1 in 1983 on Elektra?

Best to go to http://www.queenvault.com/releases.html

Yeah, but the upside is I was only 16 when this great adventure started and I've experienced the lot, as it happened!

Me too. I remember riding the bus home with my newly released copy of queen 2. Always loved reading the notes on the back of the cover. Cd text too dam small even when I was younger.

I personally prefer the Japanese 2001 vinyl replicas. They look great, they sound great (well, mostly).

The 2011 2 disc sets are nice to have, but around the house I usually opt for FLAC files taken from the original Japanese CDs. Same with Bowie.

Only comparing the original ones to the 2011s:

Q: 2011. Sounds great and the deluxe is the only must have from the set.
QII: 2011. The best it has ever sounded plus you finally get the cover in pristine quality.
SHA: ORG. The 2011 is probably the absolute worst of the bunch. Compressed as heck.
ANATO: 2011 (it's the same Bob Ludwig master as the 2005 anniversary one except for Boh Rhap)
ADATR: 2011. Best CD version to date, a great surprise Plus the indexing was completely messed up on the ORG..
NOTW: ORG
JAZZ: ORG
THE GAME: ORG. The 2011 is awful.
Hot Space: can't decide. ORG sounds great, the 2011 is good too and not too compressed.
The Works: ORG

From Magic onwards, the albums are digital recordings and the original CD release was the leading release format. Don't bother with any remastered version for these, except maybe for MIH where the 2011 remaster corrected some audible saturation on Mother Love.

Only better choices than what I listed are the DCC gold for ANATO and the MFSL Gold for The Game. The other MFSLs have questionable eq choices and I prefer other versions.

If you actually enjoy listening to quality dynamic music the way Freddie & the gang originally wanted them to sound then you want the CD releases from the 90s. Newer stuff has been amplified to the point that the dynamics of the original mixes disappear and it just becomes a constant wall of headache-inducing noise. For the best possible quality, you'll want the original vinyl releases. (Not re-issues mastered from digital)

What? The 94 remasters were plagued with awful no-noise courtesy of Peter Mew. Stay away from them.
