Anybody else wish Queen weren't so mainstream?

I really wish their music didn't appear on mainstream radio jumbled with Katy Perry, Coldplay Bruno Mars and crap.

And i can't count the times i have heard WWRY played out loud.

It seems it has invited a lot of people who like mainstream music at the same time as Queen and don't actually understand them and just like them because of We Will Rock You or Another One Bites The Dust.

I am also seeing a lot of people who love mastery such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd but dislike Queen at the same time (maybe because of their popularity) But still it annoys me like hell.

Please post your opinions too.

I think it's good that Queen are in the mainstream, as it opens people's ears to a great band that some obscure people may never had heard of. Probably somewhere there are people who don't know them!

How can you wish someone wasn't mainstream. They are. To accomplish that just wish queen never had any of their hit songs.

As the saying goes..."Why did I have to choose the most popular band in the world to fall in love with?"!!!

It's an interesting point though, in that some people revel in getting 'into' a band especially because they are so underground and niche, and will shy away from admitting liking popular bands because they don't want to be seen to be trendy and following the crowd. Others will only like a band that is in the public consciousness in a big way, and won't even give any other acts of a similar style a listen simply because they haven't heard of them!

I don't listen to mainstream radio, so I can't comment on that.

And, sorry, can't resist......how else does one hear anything other than out loud (aloud)?

I wouldn't have discovered Queen if not for the radio. When I dug deeper into them I discovered all these gems which was wonderful. So I can't say I wish they weren't mainstream. Else me and probably lots of others wouldn't have really discovered Queen.

They're mainstream since the 80's. Or were. Of course, I too believe their early stuff is the best but as Chief Mouse wrote if they were not on radio I probably would never know about them

Since the 70's surely - Bo Rhap's success was about as mainstream as it gets.

no it didn't.
Bo Rhap was mainstream....the second it entered the charts.

it may have been different... ...just because a song is different doesn;t make it subversive. in fact the late 60s/early 70s was FULL of songs that were not typical chart pop hits....but they ALL were part of the mainstream by virtue of being such huge hits even going so far as underlining the fact that ANYTHING was now acceptable as part of that mainstream

Bo Rhap is one of the most recognised songs out there, queen fan or not. As soon as it broke, they were mainstream personified.

if Queen weren't mainstream... you wouldn't have heard of them. And this forum wouldn't exist. Also, Freddie Mercury would probably still be alive. But he wouldn't be called Freddie Mercury.
