Actually that`s a well known problem for a lot of singers.
Reaching a note is the one thing....make it sound good or "work" with it, is the other thing.

They explained their methodology in the article - they used sheet music song sheets to take the highest and lowest notes of the melodies of all the songs in the back catalogues of each singer for comparison.

OK fine, but most singers work their melodies within a limited range of course, all good and normal.

They haven't looked into the backing vocals......

Good point. Freddie went a lot higher in falsetto during live performances than he did in the studio. That's probably one reason why his range isn't as wide in that article as it really was.

I bet they only found sheet music of the hits too. Unlikely that they found the E6 in It's Late for example.

I agree. Of course some of the high notes might be absent from the sheet music anyway, like the high notes in Save Me. They're pretty buried in the mix.
