It sounds incredible, but Lemmy Killmister is dead. Two days after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Although most of us could somehow see it coming anytime soon, I guess nobody actually could believe it would happen.
When I got home last night and read the note on Facebook, I had to double check to make sure it actually said "Lemmy" after reading the first two or three lines. I seriously thought the note was about someone close to the band and I'd misread it.
Terrible loss, and even after seeing several reports on TV and websites, I still find it hard to believe.
Speaking of reports, Metallica shared some very moving personal stories. Lars' is particulary beautiful.

Damn. 1st we lost Chris Squire, now Lemmy. I honestly thought it was one of those dead celebrities hoax when I 1st saw the news through Facebook. It was until my feed was flooding with news and tributes did I believe he's gone. Owing to his hard lifestyle, it's understandable he's gonna go, but his death was so sudden.
That said, Rock In Paradise, Lemmy Kilmister. May he rock hard in the great Rainbow Bar in the sky.

Considering he was an outspoken militant atheist, paradise (if it exists) is the last place where he'd like to be. Having said that, he was obviously (according to those who knew him) a magnificent person, so he'd certainly deserve the best. Interesting paradox...

It's amazing that guys like him and George Carlin survived into their 70s with all the drugs they put into their body.
And Keith Richards is still standing.

It isn't genetics, it's luck.
They were lucky enough to keep their addiction on a moderate level, lucky enough to not have a bad batch of drugs, lucky enough that their friends have been more of a help than hindrance. And most of all, they were lucky enough in not getting a cancer sooner.
But there are a lot of musicians who died younger, who weren't that lucky. Lemmy was lucky to get this far, and I guess the world of music was lucky too.

I don't wanna live for ever,"
It kind of reminds me of my dad. He died of an aggressive lung cancer which was diagnosed just two weeks prior to his death, with the only apparent symptom being a persistent cough.
He was a smoker and hopeless drunk, and still got to be almost 70 because he was lucky enough to have somebody to roll him over and stop him from suffocating in his own vomit.
