..actually realise how much they fucking stink? Fair enough you went outside but when you come back in you make me wretch. What you thinking?

Say this to whoever is affecting you directly to his or her face. Don't be a coward. No point complaining to us here :-)

Forums and places like Reddit exist for a reason - because you can't say these things to someone's face. You'll get some kind of bullshit emotional autopilot platitude response, not actual dialogue about the problem.
^ this just does not exist in real life. Internet anonymity makes it possible.
This is one of the greatest, most revealing things you will ever read.

I bring it up with them plenty of times, they just say 'I know' with an embarrassed tone in their voice. I just don't get it?!

It's an addiction.
Their physical and mental addiction is a stronger force than their need to appease you or I for a few minutes.
Some people do have the common sense to chew gum or something, but others don't.
So a better question is - why do some people have common sense and others don't?

They not only stink, but if you're in a closed room with a few of them, your clothes end up stinking as well. I was in a bar in Bulgaria a few days ago, where apparently the "ban on smoking in public venues" isn't being very rigorously upheld, and practically everyone was smoking. Apart from giving me a slight headache, it made everything I was wearing smell like crap. Had to leave after a short while as it was unbearable - probably as we're now so used to being in public places without anyone smoking.

Bitches will bitch. :')

It's not bitching; it's a legitimate complaint. Cigerattes stink, both figuratively and literally

Funny.
But in a real impartial bit. It's ridiculous to be outlawed. It ought to be a courtesy thing. To outlaw it is absurd (tobacco)
However (!) The ADDITIVES found in nearly all cigarettes should be outlawed. (Excepting when necessary for varieties: menthol etc)
I know they also use paper with gunpowder or such to control the continuous burn. That, although practical. ..couldalso be even more harmful.

I'm amazed at how many people continue to smoke based on the cost of cigarettes. I'm in the Philadelphia, PA area where packs cost anywhere from $5.25 to $8.00 EACH! I used to smoke many moons ago, I quit when I was 20. Times were different, I started at 13. It wasn't illegal to sell to anyone under 18. I was asked, "Who are these cigarettes for?" I'd say "my dad". When I quit it was about $1.70 a pack. Today, a pack a day habit will cost at least $1900.00 per year! I'm sorry, but that's just insane! That is a very nice first class vacation annually, out the window. To each they're own, but what a waste of money!
I'm not even going to start on the way it smells to all of us non smokers when they return from fulfilling their 'Nic FIt".
