How did he get those footages?! Even the audio sounded immaculate. That sparked some hopes for me that we'll be seeing Hammersmith released. Fingers crossed.

Simply the best filmed Queen concert!
This one complete and in excellent audio and video would be one of the very best rock live releases.
Let's hope they make this happen.

I must say that it has always surprised me how little official word comes out about this one. The official channels speak about Wembley '86, Knebworth, Rio, South America 1981, Live Killers, Hyde Park, Hammersmith '75, Rainbow '74 but this one - the best of the bunch - seems to stay under the radar. Strange!

I second that.

Has Queen full rights for releasing this concert? I'm asking because some parts have been released before in "Concert for Kampuchea" video. I remember something like that "only Queen has rights to release of their concert". What's the current status?

You have to make a difference between the owner rights, writer rights and publishing rights which I don't know...

The Kampuchia concerts were filmed for TV broacast originally. At the time Queen were the only band to play a full set ( headlining a date as sole performers) but the TV broadcast only showed Now I'm Here and Crazy.....

The Who and Wings got much more air time but both played on a multi band show.

I'm guessing the film rights may rest with the TV company, although a version of Hammersmith did appear at a Queen Fan Club screening in 1986! In the form of a Dutch or German, can't remember which TV special which would suggest that the footage was made available beyond the Kampuchia TV broadcast so QP,may now, well own the rights to it.

The video was shot by ITV, The TV show mentioned above is "Queen Special", it was made in 1980, 2 slightly different versions exist - a German version (with all spoken word translated to German) and a slightly differently edited Japanese version (which is in English with Japanese subtitles). The same footage again called "Queen Special" but without the "sketches" (just Queen) was used as promotional material to the South American 1981 shows. A COMPLETE version of the video was apparently shown at the 1988 (or 1989 ? ) Queen convention.

Oh and yes of course, different sources show different angles or cuts of the songs, the best example is probably Now I'm Here which exists as a "normal" version and a "epileptic attack inducing" version, or Get Down Make Love which has the "mirror version".

There was an "epileptic attack inducing" version of "NIH? Where can I find that? Just curious here, I don't know if i've seen that before.

I'm pretty sure May and Taylor or their close advisors know Hammersmith '79 would be their definitive live album, perhaps we'll get this as part of a 1979 set. Here's hoping!
