This is probably a dumb question... but I was just wondering because it seems like his hair started thinning in the late 80's but I've never seen any photo of him that showed any bald spots, is that because he wore a toupee?

Never looked like it. Natural thinning and even in TATDOOL it looked as naturally "grained" as possible. No signs of plugs or unnaturally opaque hair.

I believe he was natural except he may have dyed his hair Brown later on. .... I'm just guessing

He had a double crown. That's my input......

There was just the slightest hint of thinning on the crown area, I noticed, and of course his dad Bomi was just about bald, on top, so probably Freddie was heading that way .

Marc Martel also have a bald spot on the crown area. But you hardly notice that as long as they avoid certain angles. ;)
Basically blind em and deaf em in the first 10 minutes, and while they are recovering from that put in the less good songs

No, he didn't wear anything like that.
Also, the "powder hair" product wasn't available back then.

He definitely did in the Break Free video.

He never wore a toupee except for music videos and maybe a few parties etc - and in these cases it was a prop and worn for fun.

He had a thinning crown and recession at the temples from the mid-80s onwards. His hair first started thinning around 1983. Before that he had a really thick hairline. By 1990/91 the recession was quite visible - but for his age it was probably better than average anyway. Not everyone has a hairline like Brian. Brain's crown has started thinning but his hairline is unbelievable for someone in his late 60s.

Freddie had a bald spot which was clearly visible in the Hammersmith '79 footage.

Yep.

I've noticed the spot in Hammy CLTCL footage before but I think it's mainly just lighting and reflection. He still had fairly long hair at the time and his crown wasn't really thinning yet. Anyway, here's how it looked like in 1982 - .

Yeah but he was hiding it by '82. There are numerous moment's from CLTCL onwards in the Hammersmith show where it's obvious. You see it loads in Montreal too.

Is this what it has come to?
