Examples of Queen legacy over generations

Just wondering.
How many of you here are parents? Have you ever tried to direct your kids to Queen music (or tried to inflict them with your obsession with Queen)?

Why am i asking this?
I just spoke to my 9-yrs old son the other day and he pointed out, that from his younger age he vividly remembers me showing him different live shows and playing Queen music to him. So i can't be the only one, i suppose.

The same was with my parents who introduced me to Queen.

Sadly enough, my efforts to direct him to "decent" music have failed for now (he's into shitty music at the moment) but at least i know two things, that:
a) I tried
b) I may have (but may as well have not) layed a decent foundation for his musical preferences for future.

What are your thought on this? Should one be do some "parenting" on musical preferences as well or should one let things flow in their own (and perhaps very dissapointing) way?

I'm a parent, and my son loves Queen. Just keep playing it over and over, and eventually, he will love them! The hard sell works! :)

Yeah, but i wonder if your son took Queen as a natural thing (since his dad was/is listening to it all the time), did he somehow find it himself? Did you gently but surely point him to Queen?

My nephew took in with the catchy tune called "We Will Rock You" : even asked me what it's about.

(I kinda mentioned from conjecture and suggestions that it was about "punk rockers"/punk music, he was a little upset cause he likes punk music (parents are punk fans/former punk players))

Still likes the song a lot - he brings it up enough. But (!) On the other hand, he kinda laughed and snickered seeing Freddie in WWRY (particularly SHA)

So. ..I think it's safe to say that at least their ROCK days/legacy pre 1982 are safe with him. I haven't necessarily had time to play any of the albums for a listening session, but I'm confident that will happen at some point.

I recently picked up a left handed (2006?) Burns BM RS for when he gets a little older.

If he doesn't like QUEEN per se, he at least will have a Red Special (like: yes, they're not to exact specifications) ...a Red Special - like guitar.

There's always the gig with Jerry Lee, and the bits with Motorhead to show him

I was brought up on Elvis by my parents. Kinda fell into Queen after hearing We Will Rock You so bought the album.

Don't have kids myself but my brother has two daughters and they both love Queen from any early age.

Don't have any children, but am young enough to remember how it was when I was a child. My dad listened almost exclusively to classical music as I was growing up, and my mum just listened to anything which was on the radio, so I got into Queen all on my own. My dad tried to get me into classical music, but it was obvious from my early teens that my genre was rock.

But I'd really like to think that I would try to introduce my kid/s to Queen, when the time comes to have them. I'd just play Queen and see if he takes a liking to them. He might have different tastes than you. But at 9 his tastes are very prone to change. I think a person's taste in music starts to take a definite form in the early teen years or a bit before, i.e. at 12 or 13.

Keep in mind that Queen are so popular because the sound of their music is pleasing to many people. So chances are he'll like them.

He is an entrenched YouTube generationer and listens to what he calls 'game music', stuff like Skrillex and other nonsense while he is playing games. I didn't get into Queen until the age of 10 so he has time yet....

Hi Mate,

It was very natural. I had Hammer To Fall on and he was sitting there swaying his head! He loved it. I then bung on a few more songs, and he loves them now! Breakthru is another one of his favourites.

I got into Queen when I was 6. My cousin loved them and started bringing round tapes. I got hooked almost instantly, and by 15 had every album, and loads of Demos etc.

Hey! Don't insult video game music like that! There were some classics! ...

Megaman 3, damn near all of the castlevania games as well as a bunch of other classics. In fact Joe Satriani did some tunes for the SILVER SURFER nes game.

No, I mean music to listen to while he plays games, not the music from the actual games. It is almost it's own genre now.

I've got 2 lads, both of who were brought up with Queen in the background, when Queen were going on tour with Paul Rodgers the first time, my eldest lad then 13 came to Birmingham with his mate to see them, first live concert :-) he loved it so much he came with us to Manchester for the cosmos rocks tour ! My other lad showed no interest ! Lol

Indoctrinated my cousin for years with everything Queen...he still points that out. He fell for them, not the same as i have but hey....it's a start.
He's better off though. xD

Everyone that knows me has been inflicted one way or another. :D
