Another tidbit for the Magic album - I've had this short version of Princes Of The Universe for about a decade.
It's labelled as a demo, but clearly it's the final product, or very close to it, just without the vocals.
It reveals a guitar orchestra at the end (and a lovely diminished 7th chord @ 0:41) that's buried underneath.

Whoa, the extended version of Pain Is So Close To Pleasure has some guitar not on the studio version.
@ 4:40 to 4:50, Brian is seriously unleashing his inner Eddie van Halen.
Particularly in the climb at 4:43.
In case anyone's wondering, this stuff is precisely why alternate versions of songs are so interesting.

The top one is 2011, and it's clearly more brickwalled (see attached).
But yours appears more like 2005 - are you sure you don't have them reversed in your collection?
Or did you use har-bal or something to lighten the effects of the compression?

I'm 100% sure that I worked with 2011 version. And yes, I use several algorythms to restore clipping and dynamic compression.

Really great snippet, I never heard before. As I hear it is similar to the very end of alternate version I used on CD1 of AKOM, but with guitar instead of final vocals.
Probably Brian recorded guitar for (almost) all lead vocal melody/phrases. These guitar licks unfortunately omitted from the album version but partialy used for both unreleased mixes.
It would be great if the instrumental version with all this guitar work was released on single as the b-side back in 1986.

Actually it's the same guitar solo on all versions of PISCTP, but differently edited. If you familiar with rough mix of the album version of the song from convention playback, you'll find that album version featured complete guitar solo before the final edit.
BTW, This guitar solo is superb and is the best thing in the song for me.

Here's my version of the Princes Of The Universe instrumental - the longest possible version, I think .. !
Don't mean to hijack your thread, but since we're on the topic, I'm sure a few people will enjoy this.

Can you do better than mp3 please Bob, or do you only have the end bit in mp3?
The Real Wizard · Member since
Correct.
I don't even remember how I ended up with the file. I got it in 2007.
But surely someone else here must have it, because I sure didn't conjure it up in a test tube !

cmi wrote: No, unfortunately I still don't have these tracks. Even if I will receive them from someone, I'm sure I'll be asked not to share them as part of these sets.
Just downloaded the other albums and I'll just say I can't wait until you release Jazz!
I can't believe I haven't paid attention to the fan mixes board!

I think that second section comes from end the credits of the Highlander TV series:

Well spotted !
Then it shouldn't be too tough to create a lossless version.

^ Yes, great catch. It seems to me that only this episode features this instrumental snippet. All other episodes from Season 1 feature the album version edit.

Over to you then CMI, if you can obtain a decent source !

Well, I already found the official DVD source. So I think I will add it to AKOM CD2 soon.

will you post when you have so we can redownload it if we already have?
